The Violence Prevention & Intervention Analyst supports the City of Grand Rapids’ civilian efforts to prevent and reduce violence through data-driven strategies, policy analysis, and program evaluation. This position serves as a key resource for the Office of Oversight & Public Accountability (OPA), advancing public safety and community healing through proactive, people-centered approaches. The Analyst works to address root causes of violence, coordinate cross-sector partnerships, and empower residents with tools and resources to build stronger neighborhoods. By leveraging research, data analysis, and community engagement, this role helps design and implement comprehensive strategies that promote trust, reduce harm, and improve quality of life for all Grand Rapids residents.

The purpose of this job is to provide professional level administrative support services to the Civilian Violence Prevention & Intervention Manager or Office of Violence Prevention. Manages assigned projects. Work as staff liaison to the various departmental divisions and programs and outside agencies; may act as staff liaison with media. In some instances, this position will have supervisory responsibility.

The City of Grand Rapids has recently been awarded a 2-year grant with the expressed purpose to embed civilian violence prevention into the City’s strategic plan for public safety to implement a wholistic approach to solving violence as a public health epidemic because of its scale, impact and transmission like dynamics in the City of Grand Rapids. The grant is currently a 24-month (2 year) grant program.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.

The Administrative Analyst I – Violence Prevention & Intervention Analyst will report to the Civilian Violence Prevention & Intervention Manager in the Office of Oversight and Public Accountability (OPA) and support a variety of job duties. This position will be assigned projects within the scope of the categories listed below and may be assigned additional relevant tasks as needed.
  1. Collects, analyzes, and interprets data related to violence prevention and intervention programs; prepares reports and dashboards to inform decision-making.

  2. Assists in the formulation and implementation of policies, initiatives, and budgetary matters related to violence prevention. 

  3. Conducts research on best practices, emerging trends, and evidence-based strategies for violence reduction. 

  4. Coordinates interdepartmental and cross-sector projects; serves as liaison between OOPA, other City departments, and community partners.

  5. Develops and monitors key performance indicators (KPIs) for violence prevention programs; evaluates program effectiveness and recommends improvements. 

  6. Researches and identifies funding sources; assists with grant writing and management of awarded grants.

  7. Responds to inquiries and concerns from residents and stakeholders; prepares informational materials for public communication. 

  8. Represents OPA (CVPI) in meetings with community organizations, governmental agencies, and other stakeholders. 

  9. Prepares analytical studies, organizational assessments, and special reports as directed. 

  10. Performs related work as required.


Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Business, Public Administration, Government or a related fiel
--AND--
  • At least two (2) years of progressively responsible related work experience
--OR--
  • Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities

Preferred Qualifications and Experience: 

  • Experience in violence prevention, intervention programs, or public safety initiatives.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed practices and community-based strategies.
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools and statistical analysis software.


 Knowledge of:

  • Modern office procedures, methods and computer equipment
  • Principles, theories and practices of public sector management
  • Budget analysis methods and techniques
