The Role:The Fleet Journeyman Technician - heavy equipment assignment, performs journey-level fleet technician work in the maintenance, repair, major overhaul, fabrication, and/or collision repair of a wide variety of fleet equipment.
The ideal candidate will have five (5) years of experience as a skilled equipment mechanic at journey level, in a specialized equipment repair field, including heavy gasoline and diesel-powered equipment repair, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and industrial equipment, including experience with gas and electric welding equipment and five (5) current ASE Certifications in area of assignment, or the ability to complete the certification within six (6) months of hire.
ASE Certification Incentive Pay Program $250 - $2500 annually (based on type and number of certifications)
$200 Boot allowance - annually
$500 tool allowance after 1st 90 days - annually
Up to $1000 tool allowance - annually
Uniforms provided
Work scheduled 2nd shift Mon. - Fri. 2:30 p.m. - 11:00 p.m.

- FLSA non-exempt, and will earn overtime for any hours worked over 40 in a week.
- This position is a Grade 318 with an hourly salary between $30.3404 - $45.5106.

- 10.5 paid holidays per year, and full-time employees are also granted an additional 12 hours of holiday special leave per calendar year to celebrate their cultural or religious holidays

- Performs repairs and preventative maintenance on various gasoline and diesel-powered heavy-duty equipment such as solid waste trucks, tractors, heavy-duty trucks, small transit, bucket trucks, and fire apparatus.
- Repairs and maintains all vehicle systems, including engine, transmission, driveline, suspension, steering, brakes, electrical, HVAC, and hydraulic systems.
- Performs major and minor repairs and maintenance on a variety of heavy-duty gasoline and diesel equipment, solid waste trucks, construction equipment, bucket trucks, small transit, backhoe/loaders, street sweepers, and fire apparatus.
- Performs major and minor repairs and maintenance to fire apparatus pumps, nozzles, gauges, valves, generators, and systems to ensure they will perform under emergency conditions and prepares firetrucks for annual certified inspection.
- May mentor Fleet Technicians with general repairs of fire apparatus (ladders, tenders, pumpers, etc.), solid waste vehicles, construction equipment, bucket trucks, small transit, and other fleet equipment.
- Troubleshoots a variety of computerized systems using scan tools and web-based systems to diagnose and execute repairs.
- Performs repairs according to service manuals, schematics, and hydraulic flow charts.
- Estimates the cost and time of repairs and determines the most cost-effective methods.
- Fabricates and welds minor and major projects.
- Test drives all applications to ensure all repairs and maintenance have been completed.
- Consults with staff to determine the parts and supplies needed to conduct repairs.
- Makes emergency service calls for all disabled vehicles and equipment.
- Orders supplies and materials and logs them into inventory or their work order.
- Uses and disposes of hazardous materials according to established guidelines.
- Performs general cleaning and maintenance tasks necessary to keep vehicles, equipment, and tools in operable condition.
- Keeps work area and shop clean.
- Operates city vehicles.
