Transmission Engineer locations GP&L Transmission Services posted on Posted Yesterday job requisition id JR102762 Summary The Transmission Electrical Engineer is responsible for developing and adhering to standard GPL designs and developing engineering solutions that maintain reliability and meet safety standards. This position offers the opportunity to work on critical projects that directly support the growth and resilience of the electric grid. The role is considering individuals at various experience levels, with responsibilities increasing in complexity from Associate Engineer, Engineer, Staff Engineer and Senior Engineer. Pay Range: (Depending on qualifications and experience) Essential Duties and Responsibilities Apply regulatory standards and compliance requirements from NERC, ERCOT, and the Public Utility Commission of Texas in design or project analyses and documentation. Prepare clear and concise technical reports, presentations, and recommendations for internal leadership, ERCOT working groups, and regulatory bodies. Review and validate approval drawings for devices/apparatus, physical and grounding designs, BOMs and record drawings. Manage multiple design/project assignments simultaneously; senior-level engineers are expected to lead complex studies and coordinate across departments, consultants, and external stakeholders. Provide technical expertise and mentoring to team members; promote collaboration in developing planning solutions that balance reliability, cost, and regulatory compliance. Monitor and assess policy changes, emerging technologies, and industry practices to inform planning strategies and maintain best-in-class planning methods. Minimum Qualifications Associate Engineer Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology. 0 – 2 years of engineering experience. Engineer Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology. 2+ years of engineering experience. Passed FE exam (EIT certification). Demonstrated ability to independently complete technical tasks of moderate complexity. Demonstrated ability to use standard engineering software/tools relevant to department. Staff Engineer Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Electrical Engineering Technology. 4+ years of applicable electric utility experience. Demonstrated expertise in a specific technical area (e.g. transmission engineering, protection settings). Ability to lead projects or major initiatives. Senior Engineer Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology. 8+ years of applicable electric utility experience. Leads strategic or high-impact projects affecting capital, compliance, or system reliability. Authoritative technical contributor to regional or industry groups. Has served as project manager or team lead on a cross-disciplinary effort. Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Texas.
