INTEGRATED PEST MANAGEMENT

Incumbent serves as Rodent Specialist for the Evansville Building Commission – Code Enforcement Division.

DUTIES

• Manages the Integrated Pest Management Program (IPM) for the City of Evansville.
• Conducts rodent surveillance by utilizing the latest technology in remote sensor monitoring to track rodent population size and location.
• Provides education to citizens through Neighborhood meetings, National Night Out, onsite meetings, etc.
• Advises City leaders on rodent issues.
• Provides quarterly or annual reports on rodent prevention and control actions.
• Oversees any work with local contractor during abatement.
• Interprets and enforces Federal, State, and City codes. Issues citations for non-compliance with legal standards.
• Occasionally serves as Rodent Consultant to City Fire Department, Department of Metropolitan Development, and other City and County Departments.
• Maintains daily log of inspections performed, citations issued, and final outcomes.
• Reports potentially hazardous situations to proper City authorities such as Fire Department.
• Frequently receives, prioritizes, and investigates complaints regarding rodents, following through to eliminate possible life-threatening conditions and ensure compliance with minimum safety standards.
• Performs risk management duties of the department.
• Performs related duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS AND DIFFICULTY OF WORK

• relevant codes to particular situations.
• Working knowledge of and experience with the standard practices and procedures of Pesticide Management.
• Must possess Indiana Category 7A Pesticide Applicator License.
• Ability to communicate with contractors, tradesmen, State and Federal officials and the general public in a tactful and courteous manner in varied situations involving potential conflict.
• Ability to maintain accurate records of inspections and outcomes.
• Must possess a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in the Pest Management field.
• Must possess a valid Driver’s License.

RESPONSIBILITY
Incumbent applies knowledge of Federal, State, and City codes and the standard practices of Pest Management, using independent judgment to determine applicable legal standards and ensure compliance in particular situations.
Errors in judgment are not readily detected by supervisory review and may lead to events involving substantial loss or damage to property, injury or loss of life and inconvenience to the public.

PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS
Incumbent maintains working relationships with the Building Commissioner, co-workers, property owners, City and County Departments and the general public for the purpose of coordinating assignments, receiving complaints and explaining Pest Management.
Reports directly to the Code Enforcement Director.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Incumbent performs a significant amount of work at field construction sites in varying weather conditions and is exposed to the normal hazards associated with construction trades.
Incumbent may be required to work some evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
