Bachelor's Degree or higher with at least 30 semester hours of basic or applied science.
Licenses and Certificates: Texas Sanitarian-in-Training registration within six (6) months of appointment. Valid Texas Class "C" Driver's License or equivalent from another state.
Under general supervision, conducts consumer and environmental health monitoring, inspections, investigations, sampling and surveys to ensure protection of the public health and compliance with applicable laws, ordinances, policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
Conduct investigations, inspections, and sampling functions. Involves: Assist a licensed sanitarian in the investigation and inspection of establishments and facilities within an assigned area of jurisdiction with health related matters. Assist in investigation of complaints from citizens and other agencies. Collect samples of food products, water, water and sewage for laboratory analysis. Conduct miscellaneous inspections of establishments and facilities for compliance with State and local regulations. Conduct inspections for any health hazards and recommend issuance or denial of permit to operate. Prepare written reports on investigations, findings and violations. Recommend corrective measures to be taken or possible court action. Communicate public health sanitation information with the public to include giving talks to civic groups, and completing sanitation surveys. Perform special and miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Complete administrative duties. Involves: Maintain and update automated record keeping and files. Maintain accurate documentation and tracking of violations, inspections, and enforcement activities. Recommend revisions to existing ordinances and codes. Attend classroom training and seminars related to major or urgent field inspections. Prepare reports and records necessary for presentation in court and testify in court.
