JOB SUMMARY
This person in this position is responsible for the Keep Douglasville Beautiful (KDB) program development, planning, management and implementation of programs and services which promote the beautification and environmental quality of the City of Douglasville to include: recycling, clean-up efforts, beautification projects, public education and public awareness campaigns.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Serves as director of KDB program;
- Plans, coordinates and implements program activities and operations;
- Obtains and allocates needed materials, volunteers and other resources;
- Assesses the impact and or success of events and projects;
- Identifies and implements needed changes to improve and expand successes;
- Prepares and manages the KDB budget;
- Reviews and applies for grants and solicits corporate funding;
- Directs and promotes city recycling efforts;
- Promotes a variety of public relations and marketing duties to develop effective working relationships with the community to educate citizens and to gain support for KDB projects and efforts;
- Delivers presentations at schools and civic groups;
- Attends city functions and provides KDB presence and advertising;
- Prepares and distributes newsletters;
- Provides the media with program and related information;
- Prepares, submits and/or distributes a variety of reports for assigned programs and operations including reports on volunteer activities;
- Prepares and submits annual and semi-annual Keep America Beautiful reports;
- Provides guidance and advice on all KDB and related beautification issues;
- Provides assistance, guidance and overview with various beautification projects and routine work of the Maintenance and Sanitation Department grounds crew, which may include Community Service, Inmate Detail and Volunteer workers;
- Advises the Mayor and City Council on beautification projects and proposals;
- Provides horticultural advice to citizens, other departments and City officials;
- Receives and responds to calls from citizens, City officials and the general public regarding KDB activities, recycling and related issues;
- Takes photographs and slides of events for use in displays, advertising and marketing presentations;
- Designs and coordinates the preparation of signs, banners, brochures, plaques and other items;
- Performs litter index as required by Keep America Beautiful; and
- Performs other related duties as required;
- Exercises discretion and independent judgment regarding whether the City and KDB will participate in annual programs and events , including but not limited to a. Bring One for the Chipper, Arbor Day Program, Great American Cleanup, and America Recycles Day.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Requires Bachelor’s degree in marketing, public relations or a closely related fields, supplemented by five (5) years of experience planning and implementing beautification or public relations projects; or High School graduate or G.E.D. with four years of experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities needed to perform the essential functions of the job.

- Ability to perform mathematical calculations.
- Ability to use of own vehicle or City vehicle.
- Ability to use personal computer and associated software including Microsoft Office, AS 400 and Internet, calculator, printer, fax machine, telephone, two way radio and copier.
CERTIFICATION, LICENSE AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires a valid drivers’ license.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work is medium work and requires crouching, picking, pinching, handling, hearing, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, and walking.
