The City of Delray Beach is a Non-Tobacco Workplace. The technical work in landscape/site inspections for compliance with Land Development Regulations (LDRs) and approved plans of all new and existing properties throughout the City. Work is performed under general direction.
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Inspect properties for landscape violations.
- Approve permitting for vegetation and tree removal.
- Inspect all new properties, including single family homes, prior to certificate of occupancy are issued in order to manage property owners' compliance with the City's landscape code(s), LDRs, and approved plans.
- Review site plans and assist in permit requests for landscape requirements.
- Inspect housing program related properties when landscaping is included.
- Answer questions concerning landscape code requirements and violations from the public.
- Maintain files and records. Prepare reports.
- Perform all functions and responsibilities according to the, Palm Beach County Code of Ethics and Florida State Statutes 112.313.
- Graduation from an accredited four (4) year college or university with a Bachelor's (BA/BS) Degree in Horticulture, Landscape Architecture, or a related field,
- Or two (2) years of related work experience, and an Associate's (AA) degree in horticulture or related field.
- International Society of Arboricultural (ISA) certification, or Landscape Inspectors Association (LIA) certification preferred.

A comparable combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position, may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
