What are the responsibilities and job description for the Civil Engineer position at City of Coral Springs?
Under administrative direction, the purpose of the position is to perform professional work in engineering and project management related to planning, design, review, and construction of public facilities and private developments in compliance with all applicable City/State/Federal codes and regulations, and according to all acceptable engineering practices. Employee shall work with a high degree of independence and initiative. Position requires working intimately with Public Works Management and Engineering staff for matters involving unusual development or planning problems.
Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as office or meeting and training rooms, e.g., use of safe work place practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire and building safety regulations, and traffic signals when driving.
- Prepares engineering plans and specifications for in house Engineering/Construction projects and repairs including preparation of permit applications for various permitting agencies.
- Manages and assists in the design of capital improvement projects to ensure planning, design, development and construction is completed in compliance with all applicable City/State/federal codes and regulations, and according to all acceptable engineering practices.
- Provides construction management services for capital improvement projects and provides guidance for the day-to-day operations, administration, and decision making related to new building construction and renovation projects, as well as utility projects such as water, sewer, paving, and drainage and roadways.
- Performs engineering inspections of city infrastructure improvements including water, sewer, storm water drainage systems, roadways and vertical construction; reviews and approves permits for work in the public right-of-way.
- Reviews developers' projects and attend development review committee meetings to ensure designs meet all applicable city codes and regulations.
- Provides information and interpretation of codes and regulations.
- Provides technical information and interpretation to the public, developers, permitting agencies, consultants, contractors and other city staff.
- Assists in managing the City's Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MSSS)/NPDES, Community Rating System (CRS) and FEMA Remapping Programs.
- Assists Purchasing division with bid preparation, including contract documentation and development of technical specifications. Attends pre-bid meetings, review bids, and makes recommendations to Purchasing Division and Public Works Management.
- Provides project management support as directed by Assistant Director or Department Director.
