Description / Position Overview

Senior HR Technician

About the job: The City of Colorado Springs Human Resources team is looking for a Senior HR Technician who enjoys helping others, solving problems, and ensuring HR processes run smoothly. In this role, you will provide leadership and support within the HR Solutions Center, helping deliver responsive, high-quality HR services to employees and departments across the City.

As a senior member of the team, you will serve as a trusted resource for employees and managers, support complex HR processes, and help ensure our systems and data remain accurate and reliable. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys balancing technical HR work with meaningful customer service and collaboration. Please note, this is not a supervisory role.

Job Type: Full time

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday (in office presence required)

Work Location: City Administration Building, 30 S Nevada Ave, Colorado Springs, CO 80903

As a Senior HR Technician, You Will

Team Support & Leadership

  • Provide guidance, oversight, and technical support to HR Solutions Center staff.
  • Review work completed by team members to ensure accuracy and consistency.
  • Lead or support special projects, audits, and reporting efforts as needed.

HR Operations & Systems

  • Perform complex HR transactions and maintain accurate employee data within the Human Resource Information System (HRIS).
  • Review and audit HR records, onboarding documentation, and system entries to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Generate and analyze HR reports to support operational needs and informed decision-making.
  • Assist with implementing system updates, enhancements, and department initiatives.

Customer Service & Employee Support

  • Serve as a helpful resource for employees and managers by answering questions and providing guidance on HR policies, processes, and procedures.
  • Assist with more complex or sensitive HR inquiries while maintaining professionalism and discretion.

Process Improvement & Compliance

  • Help maintain and update desk manuals, procedures, and information guides so they remain accurate and accessible.
  • Support compliance efforts through audits, records management, and documentation reviews.
  • Ensure confidentiality and appropriate handling of employee information at all times.

Successful candidates will bring:

  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Knowledge of Human Resources practices and processes
  • Experience working with HR systems and data reporting
  • Proficiency with modern office technology and software, including Microsoft
  • Clear and professional communication skills, both written and verbal
  • A collaborative, customer-focused approach to supporting employees and colleagues

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Five years of professional experience in human resources

  • Experience being in a team lead role
  • Experience working in a government setting
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office
  • Possession of an HR certification such as PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP.
