Finance Technician I - Sales Tax
About this Job: The Finance Technician I is an entry-level role supporting the City’s Sales Tax Division through clerical and data entry functions, including tax return processing, taxpayer registration, and account maintenance. The position serves as a primary point of contact for the public and internal staff, assisting via phone, email, and in person. Success in this role requires clear communication, a consistently professional and composed demeanor, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines in a high-volume environment.
Job Type: Full - time
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, on-site. No routine remote work; remote work required during City facility closures due to inclement weather or emergencies, unless otherwise directed.
This position is subject to budget required furloughs to be implemented in the 2026 calendar year.
As a Finance Technician I, you will:
- Assist taxpayers and staff via phone, email, and in person
- Provide account, licensing, payment, and refund information
- Process sales tax licenses, certificates, and amended returns
- Enter and reconcile tax data; resolve discrepancies
- Prepare and balance daily deposits (cash, check, and credit)
- Reconcile deposits with bank records and allocate funds
- Maintain accurate financial records in compliance with established policies and procedures
- Compile documentation and support the preparation of financial and accounting reports
- Other duties as assigned

- Understanding of sales & use tax processes (preferred but not required)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data systems
- Strong data entry and 10-Key accuracy
- Clear written and verbal communication
- Ability to multitask and meet deadlines
- Team-oriented and adaptable

- High school diploma or GED
- One year of full-time experience in accounting, accounts receivable, tax processing, or a related field
