Equipment Operator II - Drainage Operations
The City of Colorado Springs is ready to welcome an Equipment Operator II to their Public Works Maintenance Operations division! As an Equipment Operator I, you will be responsible for operating and maintaining heavy machinery used in the installation, maintenance, and repair of drainage systems. This role involves clearing and excavating land for proper drainage, ensuring safe and efficient operation of equipment such as backhoes, excavators, and trenchers, and working with a team to manage water flow, prevent flooding, and maintain infrastructure.

Work Schedule: Schedule is generally 6:30AM - 5:00PM. Either Monday - Thursday or Tuesday - Friday depending on crew assignments after hire. This position requires that you are available for emergency callout.

As An Equipment Operator II, You Will
- Safely operate construction and maintenance equipment such as hand and power tools, street sweepers, dump trucks equipped with plows and sanders, front-end loaders, and tandem axle trucks
- Transport materials and equipment to and from maintenance and construction sites
- Perform preventive maintenance on a variety of equipment
- Apply chemicals, abrasives, and other ice control products
- Maintain log and record books
- Perform manual labor such as cleaning culverts, mowing, patching potholes, and shoveling asphalt

We are looking for candidates who demonstrate:
- Traffic laws, ordinances, and rules involved in light and heavy equipment operation
- Methods and techniques of traffic control
- Methods and techniques of planning and executing drainage operations
- Safe operation of vacuum trucks, excavators, and compaction equipment
- Work independently in the absence of supervision
- Understand and apply pertinent laws, rules, and regulations
- Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade (high school diploma or GED)
- Three years of professional, full-time experience in general construction, manual labor or a related field
- Possess, or obtain upon hire, and maintain a valid, non-probationary Colorado driver’s license not subject to restrictions
- Possess upon hire and maintain, a valid non-probationary Colorado Class B CDL not subject to restrictions is required for this position
