GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
Under direct supervision, performs semi-skilled and unskilled work to assist in the maintenance and construction of City grounds and equipment. Work involves the maintenance and landscaping of City grounds; application of herbicides and insecticides as needed; maintenance and repair of fences, City buildings, and equipment; assisting with the repair of light equipment assigned to the department. Work also involves assisting with the clearing of land for designated areas and sidewalks; setting up and assisting with special events. Reports to the Grounds Maintenance Supervisor.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION
- Performs general landscape maintenance duties, including mowing and trimming grass and shrubbery, edging, spraying herbicides and pesticides, and spreading grass seed and fertilizer; polices areas to remove debris and litter.
- Prepares and maintains grounds and facilities; grading and performing general landscaping functions on City property.
- Assists supervisor with the maintenance and repair of equipment assigned to the department; assists with routine maintenance of equipment.
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Performs other related work as required.
Qualifications:MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from high school, and 1 to 2 years experience in grounds maintenance; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Physical Requirements: Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including lawn mowers, edgers, tractors, etc. Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. The job is rated for Medium Work.
