The Production Lighting Technician is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining lighting systems for live events, theatrical performances, concerts, and other productions. This role works closely with directors, designers, and other production staff to ensure lighting designs are executed accurately and safely. The technician handles everything from rigging and focusing lights to programming lighting consoles and troubleshooting issues on-site. A strong eye for detail, technical expertise, and the ability to work efficiently under pressure are essential for success in this role.
  • Directly reports to the Production Managers and/or the General Manager.

  • Help with the installation, operation, and maintenance of all lighting equipment used for any Park event regardless of location.

  • Supervise and focus all Cain Park light plots. You may also be called upon to design a house repertory light plot and light plots for locally produced events.

  • Assist with the safe and correct installation of any additional lighting equipment brought into the Park by scheduled artists or rental companies.

  • Work event days as scheduled thru load-in and load-out, rehearsals, performance, and strike.

  • Work with the Lighting Designer(s) towards the realization of their designs.

  • Operating lights/lighting console for all Alma events/concerts. 

  • Responsible to maintain a professional atmosphere among staff and volunteers.

  • Assist with the execution of all performance requirements including but not limited to: operating the lighting board, acting as deckhand, and setting or striking any elements used in an event or show.

  • Work with the Production Manager and the Artist's Representative to meet the individual lighting needs of each event.

  • Responsible for keeping LX building clean and organized throughout the season. 

  • Maintain dimmer racks, lighting processors, and cables. 

  • Help with the construction, installation, and maintenance of scaffolding and masking for the Evans Amphitheater set-up.

  • Maintain high safety levels at all times.

  • Assist with shutdown activities, including end-of-season inventory of materials and supplies on hand and the values of each.

  • Stay within the lighting budget and compromise when necessary.

  • Responsible for show day set up/tear down of site lighting. 

  • Communicate all practical and theatrical light bulb needs to the production managers and/or the Operations Manager.

  • Assist with park lighting equipment upkeep and maintenance. 

  • Work with other Cain Park and/or City employees for any additional Arts Festival or Park production needs.

  • Attend all production meetings, weekly staff meetings, and any other meetings as required by the Production Managers and/or the Operations Manager.

  • Prior to receipt of the final paycheck, you will be required to submit a written final report summarizing the season, with suggestions for future improvement. This report must include a full end-of-season inventory of all production equipment and materials, supplies on hand, and their approximate value.

  • Any other duties as assigned by the Production Manager and/or the General Manager.


  • Experience working with a wide range of lighting equipment and systems.

  • Proficient in setting up, operating, and maintaining lighting fixtures, dimming systems, and lighting consoles (e.g., ETC, GrandMA, Chamsys).

  • Strong understanding of lighting design principles, color theory, and electrical safety standards.

  • Ability to read and interpret lighting plots, technical drawings, and cue sheets.

  • Skilled in programming and running lighting cues during live events.

  • Comfortable working at heights, on ladders, or lifts to rig and focus lights.

  • Able to lift and carry heavy equipment (up to 50 lbs).

  • Knowledge of and adherence to OSHA and general safety practices for live production environments.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot equipment issues quickly under pressure.

  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities; comfortable collaborating with directors, designers, and stage crew.

  • ETCP (Entertainment Technician Certification Program) or similar certification is a plus.

  • Experience with DMX lighting control protocols and modern LED systems.
