SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
As part of a work crew in the Sewer Maintenance Division, operates light to heavy equipment in the completion of various City tasks necessary for the ongoing maintenance of the City sewer system and facilities. Also perform manual labor as required and be versatile to work in other Public Works divisions as needed with the possibility of shift changes as mandated by the needs of the department.
The Equipment Operator is responsible for operating heavy equipment in a safe and appropriate manner. Heavy equipment may include sewer van, Vac-Con, trucks, back hoe, harbon jet, dump truck, front-end loaders, and other pieces of equipment. The Equipment Operator must also clean, maintain and secure all equipment as directed by legislation, policies and procedures. The Equipment Operator must deal with residents and members of the public in a courteous and respectful manner. This includes receiving complaints about schedules and levels and quality of service. The Equipment Operator must make note of and report on any such complaints and respond in a courteous and respectful manner.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
- Conduct daily inspections of assigned equipment to ensure it is in safe and proper operating condition
- Drive assigned equipment to and from designated work sites; operate sewer van, Vac-con, back hoe, harbon jet, dump truck, front-end loaders and other equipment in the completion of assigned maintenance, repairs and other related tasks
- Repairs sewer lines, flushes pipes; performs sewer taps; cleans storm drain catch basins; repairs storm pipe sinkholes
- Other duties as assigned
High school diploma or equivalent
Must have an Ohio Commercial Driver's License and excellent driving record with a tanker endorsement
Demonstrated previous experience on the Vac-Con, harbon jet and back hoe preferred
Three (3) plus years driving various types of vehicles
Good written and verbal communication skills required
Experience working with diverse populations preferred
Previous work and attendance records will be an important factor in final selection
Operate CCTV equipment and have PACP certificationESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS:
Knowledge of sewer systems and safety regulations required
Knowledge of water, sewer, and other vehicle operations
Knowledge of equipment maintenance, cleaning and storage
Skilled in the use of power tools (air compressors, cement mixers, power saws, air hammers and power sewer snakes)
Ability to operate required equipment in a safe and responsible manner
Ability to be available for emergency calls when not on regular duty and report to the Utility building within a 45 minute time frame for emergencies
Ability to read and write to maintain records and/or reports
Ability to work independently and cooperatively with co-workers.
Ability to communicate in pleasant and professional manner with employees and the general public
