Position Functions
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Performs manual labor and uses hand tools to supplement equipment operations
- Assists in snow removal and pretreating of City streets, sidewalks and bridges
- Assists in the maintenance of City streets, right of ways and curb/gutter using a combination of construction and maintenance materials in conformance with City standards
- Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with City policies, procedures and safety practices
- Attends work regularly at the designated place and time
- Supports continuous process improvement initiatives
- Performs related work as required
Qualifications
Required Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or GED and
- Experience with asphalt, carpentry, concrete, forestry, traffic signage, construction, sewer or related work or
- An equivalent combination of education and/or experience
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse population
Required Licenses or Certifications
- Valid Driver’s License Class A with tanker and air brake endorsements within one year of hire
- Ability to work overtime and flexible shifts with short notice
- Ability to report to work within 30 minutes for emergencies and stand-by responsibilities.
Work Schedule

Monday - Friday 7:00am to 3:30pm
- Winter operations require 24 hour coverage (including 2nd and 3rd shift) approximately January-March depending on weather conditions. Back shifts are filled on a volunteer basis first and then based on seniority. Newer staff will likely be moved to a back shift during these months. Upgrade pay and shift differentials apply to those working 2nd and 3rd shift.
