Under supervision, to perform routine, unskilled manual laboring work of various kinds and with various types of crews; and to do related work as required.
Essential Functions
Acts steadily as a swamper on a truck, loads and unloads heavy materials or equipment; uses wheelbarrows or pick and shovel; digs holes for poles and trenches for pipe; occasionally operates jackhammers or other power tools, or drives a light truck; pushes a light cart and sweeps streets and sidewalks with hand broom; cuts grass, weeds, and brush with hand tools; cleans sand traps and curbs; waters and weeds park areas; acts as unskilled worker on construction and maintenance crews as in the cleaning of sewers and gutters, and assisting skilled or semi-skilled workers in concrete, asphalt or grading operations; rakes lawns; and is called upon to fill-in on the many construction, maintenance, caretaking and gardening activities of the City.
Minimum Qualifications
Employment Standards:
Ability to use common hand tools; follow oral directions; establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, fellow employees and the public.
Special Conditions & Requirements: Employees in this classification, who are required by applicable laws and regulations to have respiratory protection, shall comply with the American National Standards Institute’s requirements on Practices for Respiratory Protection. Employees in this classification assigned to sewer maintenance and construction are sometimes required to be available for call out and during that assignment shall receive a salary differential in accordance with Section 2-99 of the Burbank Municipal Code. Must have the physical stamina to engage in heavy manual type of work.
License & Certificates: A valid California Class "C" driver's license or equivalent at time of appointment.
