Essential Job Functions: Greets visitors and serves as the front desk receptionist for Tyrrell Park Nature and Visitor Center, by offering information on area attractions, hotels, park amenities, etc. Performs a variety of sales and general clerical duties in addition to visitor assistance. Sells merchandise and items located in the Nature Center’s Giftshop as well as any food and drink concessions. Operates a cash register with appropriate records and receipts. Greets visitors at the Tyrrell Park Nature Center and offers information on area attractions, lodgings, restaurants, events, and facilities. Answers phones and provides information about the Nature Center, the unique history of Tyrrell Park, its historic structures, and its recreational components as well as tourist information on Beaumont. May give tours of Nature Center as requested. Interacts with the public and visitors in a pleasant and cordial manner. Keeps reception desk and gift shop lobby areas clean and organized. Maintain visitor records. Prepare end-of-the-month visitor reports. Follows standard operations procedures and building security measures to open and close Nature Center. May assist with inventory, wrapping, and display of merchandise as needed. Will also provides grants administrative support to Nature Center Manager by assisting with report preparation and record-keeping for the CVBs HOT Grant Administration processes.

THIS POSTION REQUIRES 100% ONSITE WORK. Works inside with limited outside activity. Shift Schedule varies, but must be available to work as needed, approximately 12-25 hours a week; to facilitate coverage during Tyrrell Park Nature and Visitor Center hours of operation: Monday – Friday 8AM – 5PM, Saturday 9AM – 2PM, including some holidays; work schedule varies according to staffing needs.Knowledge: Knowledge of sales and cash register operations and reporting. Basic knowledge touch screen computer equipment and software. Knowledge of office practices and procedures with use of multi-line phone system. Knowledge of general rules, functions and procedures involved in cashier operations. Basic knowledge of nature, birding, in addition to city geography, hotel/motel facilities, restaurants and attractions for Beaumont and surrounding areas. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Software; particularly MS Word and MS Excel.
Physical Requirements: Uses a Computer and Cash Register. Constantly hears and sees, frequently sits, stands, speaks, answers telephone, writes by hand, hears, writes, uses computer, calculator, and cash register; sorts, stands, sits, walks, lifts or pushes objects weighing up to 15lbs. Infrequently squats and bends. May use cleaning solvents while performing minor custodial services at reception desk and/or in gift shop displays, when needed.
Education/Experience: Graduation from high school or equivalent. Some college preferred. Some experience as a front desk receptionist in an office setting, or as a cashier, or sales, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience. Previous experience in customer service, retail, visitor centers, museums, and/or the tourism/hospitality industry is preferred.
