Job Details:
JOB SUMMARY:To mentor youth with the aim of providing support, guidance, positive interaction, exposure to positive activities, opportunities to learn life skills and positive problem-solving skills through a strength-based trauma informed approach.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Provide weekly mentoring sessions implementing social emotional learning, life skills, and peer-to-peer mentoring.
- Work as a team to help establish a trusting and dependable relationship that can place the youth on a positive path to success.
- Assist youth to further developing life skills such as self-confidence, self-esteem, academic excellence, and moral values.
- Enable and encourage positive decision-making and helping youth learn to take responsibility for actions, to see their victims as people, and to see the value in themselves
- Demonstrate good character, emotional stability, and a responsible adult lifestyle
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Connect youth and families with needed and available community resources Follow-up with youth, parents, and agencies as appropriate to regarding referrals
- Maintain case note documentation, data collection
- Provide all required documentation in a timely manner, which may include youth follow-up, outcome evaluation, and youth contact sheets Maintain a heavy caseload
- Adhere to agency policy, procedures, and the professional code of ethics
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
- Ability to work with at risk youth
- Ability to motivate others towards achieving goals
- Ability to work independently with strong sense of focus, task-oriented, nonjudgmental, open personal qualities, clear sense of boundaries.
- A strong sense of and respect for confidentiality involving both youth and fellow employees.
- Ability to work in a variety of settings with culturally diverse families and communities with the ability to be culturally sensitive and appropriate.
- Ability to legally operate a motor vehicle and provide own transportation.
- Valid drivers license.
Qualifying Education and Experience:
- High school diploma with a minimum of two years' experience in a similar position working with at-risk youth.
- Possession of a valid Texas Operator's License, Class C.
Pre-placement screening includes
- Criminal history check
- Drug, and alcohol testing
- Motor vehicle review (MVR)
