The purpose of this position is to provide an individual with exposure to operational, field and administrative functions of the Parks & Recreation Department.
The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all listed duties and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.
 
  • Assist management with special work projects from conception through implementation.
  • Conduct in-depth research studies and/or surveys specific to municipal government programs and services.
  • Assist in the preparation of statistical analysis and report findings or research studies to supervisor or department head.
  • Assist with the development of written and oral presentations.
  • Attend meetings, and participate in program events, field, operations, and administrative tasks.

Education & Experience
 Work requires broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

  • High School diploma or equivalent, with at least 24 hours of completed coursework at an accredited college or university, and current enrollment in a Parks, Recreation, Sports, Event Management, or similar degree program at an accredited college or university. 
  • No prior relevant work experience is required. 

Certification and Other Requirements
  • Valid Class C Driver's License.
  • Requires a varying schedule that includes working occasional evenings, nights, and weekends.

Knowledge Of:
  • Basic principles of parks and recreation management.
  • Functions of municipal government and public service delivery.
  • Research methods, data collection, and survey techniques.
  • Report writing, presentation development, and public communication.
  • Event planning, field operations, and administrative support tasks.
  • City of Allen’s PRIDE values and organizational mission.

Skilled In:
  • Conducting research and analyzing data for projects and reports.
  • Preparing clear, concise written materials and professional presentations.
  • Communicating effectively with staff, supervisors, and the public.
  • Assisting with planning, coordination, and execution of special projects and events.
  • Managing time and tasks efficiently in both field and office settings.
  • Using Microsoft Office and related software for reports and presentations.
  • Working collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Adapting to various responsibilities in a dynamic municipal setting.

Physical Demands / Work Environment:

  • Verbal and auditory ability to communicate effectively in person and by phone.
  • Occasional bending, kneeling, reaching, pushing, or pulling to access materials or equipment.
  • Ability to lift up to 10 lbs. occasionally or negligible weights frequently.
  • May require travel between job sites or attendance at off-site meetings or events.
