About the Department
The Parks & Recreation Department manages approximately 600 acres of green space and multiple city facilities, including the Powder Creek Splashpad, Lake Bonham Recreation and Camping Area, the Larry Shockley Baseball Complex, the Roy V. Floyd Community Center, and the Multipurpose Complex.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee operations and personnel for the Parks & Recreation Department.
- Manage budgets, purchasing, and payroll in accordance with city policy.
- Recruit, train, and mentor staff; promote a culture of safety and service.
- Direct regular maintenance activities for parks, facilities, and grounds.
- Ensure high standards of safety, cleanliness, and visual appeal.
- Manage equipment, inventory, and capital projects.
- Partner with other departments, community organizations, and volunteers to support programs and special events.
- Maintain strong communication with city leadership and the public.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- 3 years of progressively responsible parks or recreation experience.
- Knowledge of landscaping, facility maintenance, and budgeting.
- Valid driver’s license; ability to obtain a Herbicide/Pesticide License within one year.
- Bachelor’s degree in Parks & Recreation, Horticulture, Public Administration, or related field.
- 7 years in parks and recreation management, including 3 years supervisory experience.
- Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP) or Executive (CPRE).
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform outdoor, hands-on tasks as needed.
