The Department of Budget and Fiscal Services (BFS) is seeking an Accountant III/IV to prepare annual financial statements for enterprise funds in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) requirements. This position is responsible for maintaining the computerized general ledger for assigned funds, preparing and posting accounting entries, and analyzing general ledger balances to ensure accuracy and compliance.
What You Will Do:
- Prepare Annual Financial Statements: Lead the preparation of enterprise fund financial statements in accordance with GAAP and GASB for inclusion in the City’s audited Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR).
- Support Financial Reporting: Assist in developing quarterly financial reports, ACFR schedules, trial balances, and supporting documentation.
- Maintain General Ledger Accuracy: Review monthly postings in the City’s financial system (Advantage) and ensure subsidiary reports reconcile with general ledger control accounts (e.g., revenues, expenditures, encumbrances, balance sheet accounts).
- Ensure Compliance with Standards: Assist with implementation of and ongoing compliance with GASB pronouncements related to enterprise funds.

- Accountant IV (SR-22): $5,369 per month

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
Level III & IV: Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major work in accounting or a related field with at least 12 semester credit hours in accounting or auditing courses. (Note: Six of the 12 credits must be above the elementary course level and from an accredited four-year college or university.)
The education requirement must be met at the time of application. Education obtained outside of the United States must be comparable to a degree earned at an accredited college/university in the United States. In order to receive credit for the education, proper documentation, e.g., a foreign credential evaluation (FCE), must be provided. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
Level III (SR-20): Two (2) years of experience in professional accounting.
Level IV (SR-22): Three (3) years of experience in professional accounting.
Applicable Skills:
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of commercial accounting.
- Knowledge of the preparation and analysis of financial statements and reports.
- Knowledge of fiscal administration including budgeting and financial reporting.
- Ability to devise, modify, and install accounting methods, techniques and procedures.
- Ability to prepare complete and accurate accounting reports and statements.
- Ability to analyze data, detect errors and correct inconsistencies in accounting records.
