What are the responsibilities and job description for the Accounting Specialist position at Christ Chapel Bible Church?
Role’s Mission:
This role owns the integrity, accuracy, and stewardship of all incoming financial resources entrusted to the church. By ensuring donations are processed, reconciled, and reported with excellence, this position directly supports the church’s ability to plan, resource, and execute ministry. This role also serves as a key connection point between the congregation and the Finance team, providing clarity, trust, and transparency in all giving-related interactions.

Role’s Responsibilities:
Income Processing
- Process, handle and book all incoming donations and payments for the church. This includes contributions, interest, investment activity, coffee shop income, mission trip fundraising, etc.
- Perform reconciliations of the Petty Cash account.
- Approve and review any refunds for event payments.
- Initiate creative ideas to assist ministries with incoming payments.
- Manage Sunday count sheets, bank bags, deposit envelopes, and other items needed in the weekly contribution collection process.
- Process monthly employee reimbursements to Christ Chapel.
Income Reporting
- Assist the Associate Finance Director and Finance Director in reporting weekly giving activity.
- Prepare and send weekly giving reports to the Finance Committee.
- Check the bank account weekly to ensure all income items have been booked.
- Work with the Finance Director regarding giving and trends shown in the church giving platform and church database.
- Financial record-keeping and reconciliation between the church giving platform and church member database to ensure donor records are accurate and up to date.
- Coordinate with the Finance Director on upcoming cash maturity of investments to ensure cash flow supports upcoming ministry events.
- Pull updated projected interest for the year.
Donor Support & Management
- Serve as a trusted point of contact for the congregation regarding contribution statements and giving related questions, providing clarity, accuracy and care.
- Initiate creative ideas to engage donors and informing them of how church donations are handled.
Additional Responsibilities
- Assist church ministries in reconciling the balances of their activities and trips.
- Serve as the primary contact for ministries regarding their activities and event registrations.
- Partner with the Finance Director on updates and changes as it relates to the Church’s online giving platform or payment processors.
- Additional responsibilities as needed to support the Finance Director.

- All contributions are processed accurately and on time, with minimal corrections.
- Financial records reconcile cleanly across systems each week and month.
- Donors receive clear, timely responses and have high confidence in the giving processes.
- Ministries experience smooth, reliable support for events and funding.
- Opportunities for process improvement are identified and implemented proactively.
- Be an engaged member of the Finance team and work to support a positive team culture.
Role’s Reporting Relationship:
This position reports to the Finance Director.

Role’s Requirements:
Education:
- A college degree in Finance or Accounting is ideal.
Experience:
- The ideal candidate will have experience handling confidential information
- The ideal candidate will have experience with customer service
- The ideal candidate will have experience with Microsoft Excel
- One to three years’ experience in an accounting or finance role is a plus
Character
- Must be a “born-again” Christian and a member in good standing at a local church
- Must live a life worthy of the calling of Christ (Col 1:10, Eph 4:1-16)
- Must be living an “above reproach” lifestyle as outlined in the Christ Chapel Employee Handbook and Constitution
- Must be a maturing believer who is obviously, consistently, and increasingly manifesting the fruit of the Spirit in his daily walk with Christ (Galatians 5:22-23)
- Must be a person of prayer
- Must have a demonstrated “heart for service”

- Must be committed to and supportive of the authority of the Elders, the pastoral staff, and the philosophy and direction of the church both in public and in private
- Must work scheduled hours each week as unto the Lord
