Job Summary

The Senior Director, Philanthropy is a key fundraising leader responsible for securing transformational support for CHOC, now part of Rady Children’s Health. This experienced and strategic gift officer will manage a portfolio of 100 high-capacity donors and prospects, with an annual fundraising goal of $3 million or more. The Senior Director will drive six-, seven-, and eight-figure commitments through exceptional relationship-building, strategic donor engagement, and deep expertise in working with individuals, family foundations, and strategic partners. This includes fluency in complex giving vehicles such as blended gifts, bequests, and non-cash assets. Serving as both a frontline fundraiser and trusted partner to Foundation and Hospital leadership, the Senior Director will collaborate with physicians, senior executives, board members, and volunteers to develop compelling cases for support, inspire major and principal gifts, and contribute to the overall growth of the organization’s philanthropic enterprise. This leader will also mentor colleagues, model best practices in donor strategy and stewardship, and help foster a culture of philanthropy across the organization. With outstanding communication skills, financial acumen, and a sophisticated approach to engaging high-net-worth individuals, the Senior Director will serve as a visible ambassador for CHOC, advancing its mission and fueling sustained philanthropic growth to support the future of pediatric care.

Pay Range

Minimum $115,627 Midpoint $173,451 Maximum $231,254

Rate of pay is determined by various factors, including but not limited to knowledge, skills, competencies, experience, education, as well as position requirements.

Experience

  • Required: A proven track record of seven or more years of successful fundraising at the major gifts level or equivalent experience in the development and execution of marketing partnerships and product branding.
  • Preferred: Experience in a healthcare setting. Ability and experience working with seven or more years development experience. Experience using The Raiser's Edge. Experience managing a budget.

Education

  • Required: Bachelor's Degree.

Training

  • Required: None required.

Specialized Skills

  • Required: Self-starter comfortable in engaging major gifts prospects. Confident calling on high net worth individuals, committed to making introductory calls on a weekly basis, and have demonstrated success in working both independently and as a team member to create and implement fundraising strategies at the major gifts level. Ability to gain expert knowledge in specific area of responsibility and communicate in lay terms. Superior management, organizational and interpersonal skills. Proficiency in use of Microsoft products. Highest integrity and a sense of personal/professional ethics. A passion for children's healthcare, exceptional communication skills in both written and spoken word, strong interpersonal skills, and outstanding organizational abilities are essential as is a proven track record of results.

Licensure

  • Required: None required.
  • Preferred: Cert Fundraising Exec (CFRE).
