About The Role

The Senior Director of Community Impact is a senior leadership role responsible for advancing OCCF’s community impact strategy, overseeing all grantmaking, community initiatives, and scholarship programs. This leader will strengthen relationships across the nonprofit and philanthropic sectors, engage the OCCF Board of Governors, and guide a talented team dedicated to delivering measurable results for Orange County.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement OCCF’s community impact strategy across all areas of impact.
  • Partner with nonprofits, funders, and community leaders to identify needs and advance solutions.
  • Create opportunities for donors to co-invest in high-impact initiatives and steward their engagement.
  • Lead philanthropic partnerships to align resources and leverage collective impact.
  • Engage the Board of Governors, subject matter experts, and community stakeholders through convenings, committees, and collaborations.
  • Supervise and mentor a high-performing team dedicated to community impact.

Overview Of Position

The Senior Director of Community Impact is a senior leadership role responsible for designing, implementing, and advancing OCCF’s community impact strategy across all areas of impact. This position oversees all aspects of OCCF’s grantmaking, community initiatives, and scholarship programs, ensuring that OCCF’s resources are applied effectively to address critical community needs and opportunities.

The Senior Director will cultivate strong relationships with nonprofit partners, donors, and community leaders, and serve as a key liaison to OCCF’s Board of Governors by staffing the Legacy Oversight Committee and Community Impact Committee and adhoc Board related projects as required. This role requires a strategic thinker and collaborative leader who can align OCCF’s philanthropic resources with community priorities, inspire donor participation in collective giving, and steward lasting impact in Orange County and surrounding communities.

Main Duties And Responsibilities

Community Impact Strategy & Leadership

  • Design and lead OCCF’s community impact strategy across all areas of impact, ensuring alignment with OCCF’s mission and long-term goals.
  • Identify and analyze community needs, gaps, and opportunities to inform OCCF’s strategic focus and grantmaking approach.
  • Foster collaboration with nonprofit organizations, local philanthropic partners, public sector leaders, and community stakeholders to address systemic issues and drive measurable impact.
  • Establish clear goals, outcomes, and metrics for all community impact programs and initiatives.
  • Direct the design, implementation, and monitoring of OCCF’s discretionary and competitive grant programs.
  • Oversee development, implementation, and evaluation of grant programs, community initiatives, and scholarship programs.
  • Ensure effective management and compliance of OCCF’s scholarship programs.
  • Oversee OCCF’s current community initiatives, including OC Nonprofit Central and Giving Days
  • Create and promote opportunities for donors to invest in OCCF’s community impact.
  • Partner with Donor Engagement team to steward relationships with fund advisors interested in collaborative funding opportunities and communicate with donors about impact of their giving.
  • Partner with the Philanthropic Strategy team to align donor interests with community needs.
  • Partner with Marketing and Communications team to create materials, tools, and other necessary collateral supporting community impact.

Board & Community Engagement

  • Serve as lead staff for OCCF’s Legacy Oversight Committee and Community Impact Committee, developing discussion topics, oversee preparation of materials, facilitating discussions, and implementing recommendations.
  • Engage OCCF’s Board of Governors with strategic insight and guidance on community needs, grantmaking priorities, and impact strategies.
  • Identify, recruit, and engage subject matter experts to inform OCCF’s strategies and strengthen learning across priority issue areas.
  • Plan, coordinate, and facilitate community convenings that bring together nonprofit leaders, funders, policymakers, and residents to discuss challenges, share insights, and advance solutions.
  • Represent OCCF as a visible leader and convener in the community, fostering collaboration across sectors.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong partnerships with local and regional philanthropic institutions to align strategies and leverage shared resources.
  • Collaborate with peer funders and philanthropic networks to co-design and co-fund initiatives addressing Orange County’s most pressing issues.
  • Represent OCCF at funder collaboratives, regional grantmaker associations, and sector-wide convenings.
  • Serve as a thought leader by sharing insights, data, and best practices with philanthropic partners to strengthen collective impact.

Team Leadership & Supervision

  • Provide leadership, coaching, and professional development for a high-performing Community Impact team, including multiple direct reports responsible for grantmaking, scholarships, and community initiatives.
  • Effectively develop and implement OCCF’s Community Impact Annual Business Plan by establishing team goals, managing performance, while fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and collaboration.
  • Develop, manage, and monitor the Community Impact budget to ensure alignment with strategic priorities, effective resource allocation, and fiscal accountability.
  • Ensure effective staffing, workflows, and cross-team collaboration to advance OCCF’s community impact objectives.
  • Mentor emerging leaders and build internal capacity for program excellence and sector leadership.
  • Formulates and advances strategies in collaboration with internal teams across OCCF to advance organizational priorities and integrated strategies.
  • Develop and maintain solid working relationships with other departments to accomplish the foundation’s goals and objectives.
  • Drives the development, planning, implementation, and evaluation of OCCF’s community impact strategy, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and establishing clearly KPIs to measure progress and outcomes
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records in Salesforce (CRM)
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in nonprofit management, public policy, social sciences, or related field preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum 10 years of progressively responsible leadership experience in philanthropy, nonprofit, or community impact roles.
  • Minimum 5-7 years of supervisory experience, with demonstrated success developing and managing multiple direct reports, building leadership capacity, and leading cross-functional teams to achieve organizational goals.
  • Strong knowledge of community foundations, strategic philanthropy, grantmaking, and nonprofit sector best practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and implement community impact strategies and evaluate outcomes.
  • Proven success in building and managing relationships with donors, nonprofits, philanthropic partners, and community stakeholders.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation skills; ability to communicate complex issues with clarity and impact.
  • Strong facilitation and leadership skills, with experience working with boards and committees.
  • Demonstrated ability to make sound, data-informed decisions in complex and dynamic environments.
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and community-driven approaches.

Compensation & Benefits

The ability to work for an organization with a phenomenal mission, positive team-oriented work environment, a competitive salary range is $138,000 - $148,000 (Exempt) and will be commensurate with experience as well as incredible benefits including Medical, Dental & Vision, 403(b) retirement plan with an automatic contribution by the organization, 4 weeks of vacation, 2 weeks of PSL, 10 annual paid holidays and the opportunity for a 9/80 work schedule. The position will have the opportunity to work from home one day per week.
