Job Title
A position providing patient care in the office setting, meeting communication needs of patients and families, and reflecting initiative and responsibility indicative of professional expectations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain regulatory requirements, office policies, procedures, and standards.
- Communicate with providers and team members about patient clinical conditions.
- Perform quality work within deadlines, working independently or under direct supervision as needed.
- Interact professionally with other team members, patients, and providers.
Requirements:
- Certification is required.
- Greet patients and register them to the patient portal in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Triage patients according to HIPAA guidelines.
- Take appropriate vital signs, including weight, height, temperature, blood pressure, pulse, oxygen saturation, and head circumference, according to American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) guidelines.
- Update patient medical, surgical, and family history in EMR at every visit.
- Assist with minor procedures, including preparing patients for treatment.
- Comply with all Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations.
- Safely handle blood and body fluid contamination, including disposal.
- Collect capillary blood samples for in-house lab testing, perform vision and hearing screenings, and administer immunizations.
- Use safety devices and administer nebulizer treatments as directed.
- Call in prescriptions under the direction of a nurse practitioner or physician.
- Assist with patient callbacks under the direction of a certified pediatric nurse practitioner or physician.
- Perform basic lab tests, including urinalysis, urine culture, strep test, flu test, and RSV test.
- Record lab results and procedures in the EMR and on a flow lab log.
- Collect and prepare laboratory specimens, maintain organized and clean laboratory supplies, and provide necessary supplies to the office manager.
- Clean and disinfect exam rooms between patients, restock supplies, and retrieve lab and x-ray results.
- Verify patient demographics in Sevocity and complete community care well-visit appointment logs, scheduling patients for appointments as needed.
- Review expiration dates of samples and properly dispose of red bags in biohazard containers.
- Follow up on referrals, including maintaining a referral log, and record telephone messages in the EMR and phone message log.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
