The Principal Cloud Solution Data Architect designs, develops, and implements scalable, secure, and high performance data solutions, integrating source systems, data stores, interfaces, and cloud infrastructure. This role involves analyzing business requirements, creating system-level data architectures, and leveraging cloud-native technologies to optimize performance, scalability, and maintainability. The architect ensures seamless integration of enterprise-wide data while designing solutions that align with cloud best practices, including containerization, microservices, and serverless architectures. As a technical leader, the architect collaborates with cross-functional teams enterprise-wide, troubleshoots reporting, products, and data issues, and guides development teams in full-stack and cloud-native development best practices. They research emerging technologies, create reusable frameworks, document technical designs, and ensure data systems are designed for efficient deployment and management in cloud environments. This role is critical and has ultimate oversight in delivering innovative, cloud-optimized data and artificial intelligence (AI) products aligned with business goals.

Responsibilities
Technical Leadership:
- Define and deliver high-level cloud medallion data architecture that empowers enterprise-wide analytics and AI solutions to address business objectives and balance scalability, performance, and security
- Mentor and advise data professionals (engineers and analysts) within Enterprise Data Analytics, Information Services, and operational analytics teams, championing best practices in healthcare cloud data architecture, data and AI product development, standard operating procedures (SOPs), DevOps, and SDLC throughout the organization and enabling growth across teams
- Translate architectural designs into actionable tasks for development teams
- Evaluate, select, and implement emerging technologies (e.g., data mesh, GenAI data stack, lakehouse evolution) that meet the unique demands of Children’s Health, with foresight for future scalability and interoperability
- Work with stakeholders, including product owners, business analysts, and project managers, to ensure technical solutions meet business and user needs.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure successful integration of data and components
- Lead the design and integration data from source applications (e.g. electronic health records, enterprise resource planning, and other health information systems), leveraging API, ELT (extract, load, and transform), and cloud-based infrastructure
- Make architecture decisions that align with long-term organizational goals and industry best practices, using systems performance and process modeling to establish a robust foundation
- Leverage expertise in software engineering practices, back-end technologies, databases, data development/engineering, and artificial intelligence/machine learning engineering to build robust solutions
- Ensure solutions align with industry best practices for user experience, security, integrity, patient privacy, regulatory compliance, and quality
- Develop and communicate project estimates and work plans, ensuring tasks and deliverables adhere to schedules and budgets
- Manage cross-functional teams and align project execution with organizational objectives
- Align project goals with agile methodologies such as Scrum and Kanban
- Communicate progress to stakeholders and adjust plans to meet evolving requirements
- Produce and maintain detailed documentation of design components, including technical designs, program specifications, and interim components
- Produce and maintain comprehensive documentation of data architecture frameworks, policies, and procedures for transparency and accountability
- Prepare operational manuals, technical references, security policies, and user training materials to support system deployment and maintenance
- Oversee data, analytics, and AI operating environments across production, UAT, QA, and development systems or bronze, silver, and gold layers of cloud platform.
- Perform regular system upgrades, patches, and performance-tuning enhancements to ensure optimal functionality and reliability
- Monitor the performance of solutions within the cloud data platform and strategize optimization measures to consistently improve system or query performance, decrease processing time, reduce costs, and enhance overall productivity
- Collaborate with business and clinical stakeholders, directors, managers, analytics and data science teams, and informatics specialists to communicate data and AI architectural concepts and technical strategies
- Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders by providing technical guidance and addressing concerns effectively
- Lead the enterprise data architecture and innovation roadmap, aligned with Children’s Health’s business and technology strategy
- Guide engineering, product, security, and compliance leaders to ensure data platform supports real-time analytics, ML/AI, and regulatory needs
How You’ll Be Successful:
- At least 10 years hands-on experience in data extraction, data architecture, data administration, data modeling, data management, BI, with heavy focus on data warehousing and ELT technologies
- Four-year Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required
- Graduate or professional work or advanced degree; or equivalent experience preferred
- Data architecture certification (e.g. SnowPro, Advanced Architect, Microsoft Azure Data Architect, AWS, Certified Solutions Architect, Google Professional Data Engineer, or healthcare IT certifications) required within 180 Days of hire
- Denodo preferred
