Job description
Provide educational leadership in the assigned child care facilities using developmentally appropriate curriculum aligned with the Illinois State Board of Education Learning Development Standards and the Early Childhood Environmental Rating Scale.
Duties and responsibilities
- Plan and coordinate lesson plans and activities using the Creative Curriculum in cooperation with the co-teacher or early childhood educator.
- Support the literacy program by sending home books with children every week and incorporating literacy support forms from the Creative Curriculum into lesson planning and classroom activities.
- Lead or participate in small or large group activities that support the development of children’s language, self-help skills, social cooperation, and the development of positive self-concepts, as cooperatively agreed upon with the co-teacher/early childhood educator.
- Observe, document, asses,s, and plan for the individual needs of children using the Teaching Strategies Gold Assessment tool, as agreed upon cooperatively with the co-teacher/early childhood educator.
- Compile children’s portfolios and draft individualized developmental plans as cooperatively agreed upon with the co-teacher/early childhood educator.
- Participate in developmental screenings of children and support their transition into kindergarten. Support the development of children’s creative, independent thinking, exploration, experimentation, and questioning, while providing a literacy-rich, developmentally appropriate learning environment with assistance and support from the co-teacher/early childhood educator.
- Work closely with the Preschool for All Coordinator and co-teacher/early childhood educator to obtain information for state-required reports, schedule parent-teacher conferences, and coordinate other parent involvement and education activities. Also, participate in the Parent/Child nights.
- Maintain positive and productive relationships with children, parents, and staff members, keeping the needs of families and children in mind. Attend meetings and conferences related to CCR&R and ISBISBE that are not held on evenings, weekends, or in the summer.
- Must perform other duties as assigned.
Performance Measures
- Program goals for early childhood lesson plans and group activities are met or exceeded.
- Effectively documents children’s progress and maintains portfolios with individualized plans for all children.
- Maintains a developmentally appropriate learning environment.
- Program goals for assisting with children’s developmental screening and transition into kindergarten are met. Maintains communication with the program manager, Preschool for All coordinator, co-teachers, and early childhood educators as it pertains to the Preschool for All Program.
- Demonstrates a friendly, informative, and professional approach to relationships with children, families, and staff.
- Required reports and files are accurately maintained.
- Maintains Illinois State Board of Education Learning Development Standards throughout lesson plans, classroom, and children’s portfolios. Also, maintain an Early Childhood Environmental Rating Scale score of 5.0 or higher and complete a minimum of 20 hours of professional development.
