Position Overview: Check Defense is a fast-growing federal contractor seeking a qualified and experienced professional Senior Instructor/System Operator (Computer Operator III) serves as the lead technical and training expert supporting the U.S. Army’s Engagement Skills Trainer II (EST II) program at Joint Base San Antonio, TX (JBSA). This position is responsible for the operation, instruction, maintenance, administration, and quality assurance of advanced weapons simulation systems used to train Initial Entry Training (IET), Advanced Individual Training (AIT), Active Army, Army Reserve, and Army National Guard personnel. This role also serves as the primary on-site liaison between the Government and contractor workforce, ensuring effective training delivery, system readiness, scheduling, and mission accomplishment.

The Senior Instructor/System Operator provides leadership and oversight to instructor/operators while ensuring compliance with Army regulations, training standards, and contract requirements. This position is contingent upon contract award.

Duties And Responsibilities

Leadership and Program Management

  • Serve as the contractor’s on-site Point of Contact (POC) for the EST II program.
  • Coordinate directly with Government representatives, Contracting Officer Representatives (CORs), and training stakeholders.
  • Monitor and ensure effective operation, sustainment, scheduling, and utilization of EST II facilities and systems.
  • Provide guidance, mentoring, and technical oversight to instructor/operators.
  • Participate in management meetings, project reviews, After Action Reviews (AARs), and status briefings.
  • Assist in developing and implementing quality control, safety, and operational procedures.

Instruction and Training Support

  • Plan, prepare, deliver, and evaluate instructor-led training programs in accordance with Army training doctrine and approved Programs of Instruction (POI).
  • Conduct Basic Rifle Marksmanship (BRM) instruction and support advanced weapons familiarization and tactical decision-making exercises.
  • Train Soldiers, Government personnel, instructors, and operator trainees on EST II operations and procedures.
  • Conduct instructor certification, recertification, and quality assurance evaluations.
  • Assess trainee performance and provide remedial instruction when necessary.
  • Train-the-trainer personnel to independently operate and instruct using EST II systems.

System Operations

  • Operate EST II computer control stations and associated hardware/software systems.
  • Control training sequencing, scenarios, target engagements, video playback, and audio functions.
  • Support After Action Reviews by capturing and presenting performance data.
  • Advise military personnel on weapon simulator capabilities, training applications, and operational procedures.
  • Ensure training systems remain fully operational and mission ready.

Technical Maintenance and Troubleshooting

  • Perform daily preventive maintenance on weapons simulators, computer systems, target systems, and audiovisual equipment.
  • Troubleshoot hardware, software, and weapons simulation system malfunctions.
  • Conduct operator-level and direct-support maintenance and repairs.
  • Maintain maintenance records and equipment logs.
  • Upload utilization and maintenance data into Army tracking systems, including TS-MATS.
  • Ensure training facilities are clean, organized, and maintained in accordance with Army standards.

Administrative Support

  • Maintain certification, training, and recertification records.
  • Develop and maintain training utilization reports and performance tracking databases.
  • Assist with Monthly Status Reports (MSRs), meeting minutes, inventory records, and operational documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with all contract reporting requirements.
  • Maintain training and maintenance documentation in accordance with Army and contractor procedures.

Required Qualifications

  • United States citizen.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Valid Ud.S.-issued Driver’s license.
  • Ability to pass a background investigation.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in military training, weapons simulation systems, or related technical training environments.
  • Demonstrated experience operating computer-based training systems and Windows-based software applications.
  • Experience delivering classroom and hands-on instruction to adult learners.
  • Strong technical troubleshooting and maintenance skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend English fluently.
  • Must be capable of working independently with minimal supervision.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior military service as an instructor, marksmanship trainer, simulation operator, range operations specialist, or comparable training professional.
  • Experience operating Engagement Skills Trainers (EST), Virtual Training Systems, or similar simulation platforms.
  • Experience supervising training personnel or managing a training program.
  • Knowledge of Army training doctrine and TRADOC instructional methodologies.
  • Familiarity with TS-MATS and Army training management systems.

Required Technical Knowledge

Candidates should possess operational knowledge of:

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in classroom, training facility, and simulator environments.
  • Ability to lift, move, and position simulator components and training equipment as required.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform equipment maintenance activities throughout the workday.
  • Ability to operate computer equipment for extended periods.
