Job Title: Supportive Camp Lead – Summer Camp

Reports to: Extended Care/Summer Program Director

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt / Hourly

Hours: Seasonal - Summer Only, M-F - 8:45 - 4:15

About Chattanooga Christian School:

Chattanooga Christian School (CCS) is a Christian, interdenominational, co-educational, day school nestled on 55 acres at the foot of Lookout Mountain. CCS has been serving Christian families in the Chattanooga area since 1970 and currently enrolls 1,550 students in the Lower School (Preschool -5), Middle School (6-8), and High School (9-12). Position Overview:

The Supportive Camp Lead oversees summer camp groups with a focus on supporting campers with disabilities. This role assists with daily camp operations, staff support, camper grouping, and scheduling to ensure a safe, inclusive, and well-organized camp experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support daily operations of the summer camp program
  • Supervise and support camp counselors and support staff
  • Work directly with children of varying abilities, including those with disabilities
  • Assist with age-appropriate behavior support and discipline
  • Organize campers into appropriate groups based on age, needs, and activities
  • Create and maintain daily schedules to support smooth transitions
  • Keep groups on schedule for activities, meals, rest times, and transitions
  • Provide guidance, support, and problem-solving assistance to staff
  • Communicate effectively with camp leadership regarding camper and staffing needs

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with children required
  • Experience working with children with disabilities required
  • Strong organizational and scheduling skills
  • Ability to manage multiple groups and transitions
  • Ability to work well as part of a team
  • Calm, patient, and supportive approach with campers and staff

Preferred Skills:

  • Background in education, special education, or a related field
  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills

This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about inclusive programming and supporting both campers and staff to create a smooth, positive summer camp experience.

  • Requires vision to read small print.
  • Requires the mobility to stand, stoop, reach and bend. Requires mobility of arms to reach and dexterity of hands to grasp and manipulate small objects.
  • Requires the ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Requires the ability to walk long distances.
  • Requires lifting, pushing, and/or pulling which does not exceed twenty-five pounds and is an infrequent aspect of the job.
  • Is subject to normal inside and outside environmental conditions.
  • Mental acuity to perform the essential functions of this position.
