Job Title: PreSchool Lead Counselor - Summer Camp

Reports to: Extended Care/Summer Program Director

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt / Hourly

Hours: Seasonal - Summer Only, M-F - 8:45-4:15

About Chattanooga Christian School:

Chattanooga Christian School (CCS) is a Christian, interdenominational, co-educational, day school nestled on 55 acres at the foot of Lookout Mountain. CCS has been serving Christian families in the Chattanooga area since 1970 and currently enrolls 1,550 students in the Lower School (Preschool -5), Middle School (6-8), and High School (9-12). Position Overview:

The Preschool Lead Counselor will oversee the Preschool-aged summer camp groups and support the daily operations of the Preschool Camp program. This role includes supervising campers, assisting with staff management, maintaining schedules, and ensuring a safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate camp experience for all children.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily operations for Preschool camp groups
  • Supervise and support Preschool counselors and camp staff
  • Ensure campers are safe, engaged, and cared for throughout the day
  • Assist with age-appropriate discipline and behavior guidance
  • Keep groups on schedule for activities, meals, rest times, and transitions
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with staff and camp leadership
  • Help create a positive, calm, and fun camp environment
  • Assist with problem-solving and daily logistical needs as they arise

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with preschool-aged children required
  • Ability to work well as part of a team
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills
  • Comfortable supervising and guiding other staff members
  • Patient, nurturing, and confident working with young children
  • Ability to manage multiple groups and transitions throughout the day

Preferred Skills:

  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience in a childcare or camp setting
  • Understanding of developmentally appropriate practices for preschoolers
  • Strong communication and conflict-resolution skills

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with young children, supporting staff, and helping create a smooth, joyful summer camp experience.

  • Requires vision to read small print.
  • Requires the mobility to stand, stoop, reach and bend. Requires mobility of arms to reach and dexterity of hands to grasp and manipulate small objects.
  • Requires the ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Requires the ability to walk long distances.
  • Requires lifting, pushing, and/or pulling which does not exceed twenty-five pounds and is an infrequent aspect of the job.
  • Is subject to normal inside and outside environmental conditions.
  • Mental acuity to perform the essential functions of this position.
