Role Summary

The Product Owner works with business stakeholders, developers, QA, and Scrum Masters to deliver data & AI platform solutions. Key responsibilities include product vision, backlog management, stakeholder engagement, and release planning.

Key Responsibilities

Product Vision & Strategy

• Define/maintain backlog for Data & AI platform aligned with strategic plan
• Translate institutional goals (student success, research, operational efficiency) into product objectives
  
  

Stakeholder Engagement

• Collaborate with faculty, researchers, administrators, and IT leaders
• Identify high-value data and AI use cases
• Liaison between business stakeholders and technical team
  
  

Backlog & Prioritization

• Create, refine, and prioritize product backlog
• Define acceptance criteria for data, AI, and integration user stories
  
  

Delivery & Execution

• Collaborate with data engineers, AI/ML specialists, developers, architects
• Support Agile ceremonies (sprint planning, standups, reviews, retrospectives)
  
  

Governance & Data Stewardship

• Enforce data security, compliance, stewardship, and quality standards
• Ensure ethical and responsible AI guidelines in higher education
  
  

Analytics & AI Enablement

• Guide development of AI/BI apps, self-service analytics, AI-powered insights
• Identify opportunities for AI/ML models (student retention, enrollment forecasting, research analytics)
  
  

Change Management & Adoption

• Communicate platform benefits and updates to stakeholders
• Drive adoption through demonstrations, training, and user enablement
• Help measure value creation and realization
  
  

Continuous Improvement

• Monitor product performance, collect feedback, adjust priorities
• Stay current on data & AI/ML trends
  
  

Qualifications

Required

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Science, Computer Science, Data Science, Business Administration, or related field (Master’s preferred)
• 5 years experience in product ownership, business analysis, or project management (data/analytics/AI focus preferred)
• Experience in higher education, research, or public sector environments
• Proven success delivering enterprise data & AI platforms using SAFe Agile

• Data & AI platforms (Databricks, AWS, Azure, GCP, Salesforce Data Cloud)
• Data Governance (Purview) and Master Data Management (Profisee)
• AI/ML concepts, predictive analytics, responsible AI frameworks
• BI/analytics tools (Tableau, Power BI, Salesforce CRM Analytics, Looker)
• Data governance, privacy, compliance (FERPA, HIPAA, GDPR)
• Backlog prioritization, user story creation, acceptance criteria
• Agile/Scrum, Jira/Azure DevOps
• Strategic thinking aligned with institutional goals
• Change management in academic communities
  
  

Certifications (Preferred)

• CSPO or SAFe Product Owner/Product Manager
• Data/cloud certifications (Databricks, Azure Data Fundamentals, Azure Purview, Profisee)
• AI/ML or analytics certifications (Databricks MLFlow)
