What are the responsibilities and job description for the Upper School History Teacher position at CHARLOTTE LATIN SCHOOL INC?
Charlotte Latin School is seeking a collegial and dedicated Upper School History Teacher for a full-time, 10-month position beginning August 2026. The ideal candidate will teach World and U.S. History, fostering critical thinking and a love of learning in students. Additional responsibilities may include sponsoring extracurricular activities, advising students, and/or coaching.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Teach four sections of History
- Partner with colleagues to create and update course curriculum
- Within course teams, collaborate with colleagues toward consistency in grading practices
- Assess students’ performance in a timely and consistent manner
- Provide 1:1 support to students during office hours, and before and after school
- Participate in ongoing professional development to stay current within the field
- Additional responsibilities may include sponsoring extra-curricular activities, advising, and/or coaching
Supervisory Responsibilities
- None
Education and Experience
Particular consideration will be given to candidates with a broad background in history and liberal arts, a willingness to teach a combination of courses in grades 9-12, and an affinity for working with Upper School students.
- Experience teaching World History required, with additional experience teaching US History preferred
- Bachelor's degree required; Master's preferred
- Lead teaching experience required; three or more years of lead teaching experience preferred
