Transport Driver

The Transport Driver is responsible for safely transporting residents, patients, clients, or passengers to and from medical appointments, activities, and other scheduled destinations. The driver ensures passenger safety, maintains the assigned vehicle, and provides courteous, professional service while complying with all traffic laws and organizational policies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Safely transport residents/patients to and from appointments, hospitals, clinics, and other designated locations.

• Assist passengers with entering and exiting the vehicle safely, including the use of wheelchairs, walkers, or other mobility devices as needed.

• Secure wheelchairs and other equipment according to safety regulations.

• Maintain accurate transportation logs, mileage records, and trip documentation.

• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and report maintenance needs promptly.

• Keep the vehicle clean, fueled, and in safe operating condition.

• Follow all state and federal traffic laws and organizational safety policies.

• Communicate effectively with nursing staff, schedulers, families, and healthcare providers regarding transportation schedules.

• Maintain confidentiality of resident and patient information in accordance with HIPAA regulations.

• Respond professionally and calmly during emergencies or unexpected situations.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.

• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

• Current CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).

• Experience transporting elderly, disabled, or medical patients preferred.

• Ability to safely operate wheelchair-accessible vehicles.

• Excellent customer service and communication skills.

• Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds and assist passengers with mobility needs.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of defensive driving techniques and traffic safety regulations.

• Ability to read maps, GPS systems, and transportation schedules.

• Strong organizational and time-management skills.

• Ability to work independently and maintain a positive attitude.

• Dependable, punctual, and professional in appearance and conduct.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to sit for extended periods while driving.

• Frequent bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, and assisting passengers.

• Ability to safely operate vehicle lifts, ramps, and wheelchair restraints.

• Ability to work in varying weather conditions.

Work Environment

• Works indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions.

• May include weekends, holidays, evenings, and on-call hours depending on organizational needs.

• Regular interaction with residents, patients, families, healthcare providers, and staff.
