Summary 

The Flag Football Official is responsible for officiating youth and/or adult league games and tournaments. This position ensures fair play, enforces rules, and maintains a safe and positive environment for participants. 

The payrate for this position is $30/game


Supervision 

The Sports Official reports directly to the Sports Official Assignor and Sports Coordinator. 


Classification 

  • Non-Exempt, per-game basis 

  • Part-time 2 (not to exceed 19 hours per week on average) 


Training – Can be obtained through the Champaign Park District

  • First Aid, AED, and CPR Certification 
  • Heads Up Concussion training 
  • Harassment prevention training 
  • Bloodborne pathogen training 
  • Recreation software system training 
  • Facility training 

Essential Functions 

  • Follow all Champaign Park District safety policies and perform all work in a manner that ensures the safety of oneself, the public, fellow employees. 

  • Demonstrate a high level of professionalism and discretion in all interactions, including maintaining strict confidentiality regarding staff information, communications from supervisors, and conversations with parents or patrons. Uphold the Park District’s policies and standards for data privacy and confidentiality at all times. 

  • Officiate games and tournaments in accordance with league rules and Park District policies. 

  • Make quick, impartial judgments and communicate decisions clearly to participants and coaches. 

  • Maintain control of games, ensuring participant safety and sportsmanship. 

  • Mentor and support less experienced officials. 

  • Resolve conflicts effectively 

  • Attend all required meetings, workshops, and training sessions. 

  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor while on duty. 

  • Work evenings and weekends as scheduled 

  • Remain adaptable to learning and officiating new recreation activities as needed. 

  • Comply with equal opportunity and harassment laws, policies and procedures. 

  • Other duties as assigned. 


Working Conditions 

  • May need to respond quickly and accurately during games 

  • May be exposed to various weather conditions during outdoor activities

Qualifications:
  • Must be at least thirteen (13) years old; candidates under sixteen (16) must have a valid work permit. 
  • Knowledge of rules for applicable sport(s)  
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, participants, and spectators.
