Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive legal and policy research on proposed and existing legislation, regulatory actions, and public policies at the local, state, and federal levels.
- Research model legislation and analyze related policies across states to identify trends, best practices, and opportunities for alignment or advocacy.
- Draft legislative language, amendments, policy briefs, and position papers.
- Monitor legislative calendars, committee hearings, and bill progress; maintain tracking systems for key legislation.
- Analyze the potential impact of legislation and regulatory changes on the organization’s priorities.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to align legislative strategies with organizational goals.
- Prepare briefing materials and talking points for meetings with elected officials, coalitions, and other stakeholders.
- Support the Director of Government Affairs in developing and executing advocacy strategies.
- Represent the organization in policy working groups, coalitions, and public forums as needed.
- Domestic Travel – 10%
Skills
- Bachelor's degree in political science, public administration, or a related field; Juris Doctor (JD) degree preferred
- 2 years of experience in legislative affairs, legal research, or public policy (internships and clerkships may count).
- Strong understanding of legislative and regulatory processes.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex legal concepts into accessible language.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience drafting legislation or working with legislative counsel.
- Familiarity with bill tracking software and legislative databases.
- Prior experience in a government agency, law firm, or advocacy organization.

Salary Range
The expected salary range for this position is $95,000 to $115,000 annually. This is a good faith estimate, and final compensation may vary based on experience, skills, and geographic location.
