THE OPPORTUNITY:
Our client is seeking an Interim Senior Accountant to support core accounting operations within a complex, multi-departmental environment. This role will play a key part in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting close processes, and ensuring consistency across accounting activities tied to multiple programs and funding sources.
The ideal candidate will bring a strong foundation in general ledger accounting, experience operating at a senior or lead level, and the ability to work independently while partnering with internal stakeholders. This role is well suited for someone who is detail-oriented, process-driven, and comfortable navigating structured organizational environments.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support month-end and year-end close processes, including preparation and review of journal entries and account reconciliations.
- Maintain accuracy of the general ledger, ensuring transactions are properly recorded and supported.
- Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations, identifying and resolving discrepancies.
- Assist in the preparation of financial reports and supporting schedules.
- Partner with internal departments to ensure proper accounting treatment of transactions and expenses.
- Support accounting for various operational activities, including accruals, prepaid expenses, and interdepartmental allocations.
- Ensure compliance with internal accounting policies and established procedures.
- Assist with audit preparation by organizing documentation and supporting schedules as needed.
- Contribute to process improvements that enhance efficiency, accuracy, and consistency within the accounting function.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
- 3–5 years of accounting experience, with recent experience operating at a Senior Accountant or Lead level.
- Strong understanding of general ledger accounting and close processes.
- Experience preparing journal entries and performing account reconciliations.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in Excel and familiarity with accounting systems.
- Experience working in structured, multi-departmental environments preferred.
- Strong communication skills and ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
