Position Summary
The Aseptic Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing aseptic processing and packaging equipment to support the safe, compliant, and efficient production of sterile products. This role ensures operational continuity through both preventive and corrective maintenance while adhering to GMP, food safety standards, and applicable regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair aseptic processing, filling, and packaging equipment, including fillers, sterilizers, pasteurizers, conveyors, pumps, and valves
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance to reduce downtime and improve equipment reliability
- Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic issues
- Support aseptic start-ups, changeovers, CIP/SIP processes, and equipment validations
- Ensure all maintenance activities comply with GMP, HACCP, and FDA/USDA regulations, as well as established SOPs
- Accurately document maintenance work, repairs, and inspections in CMMS or maintenance logs
- Partner with production, quality, and engineering teams to troubleshoot issues and drive improvements
- Participate in root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives
- Maintain a clean, safe work environment and follow all safety procedures, including lockout/tagout
- Provide basic equipment training and support to operators as needed
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and ability to learn new systems
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; technical certification or associate degree in industrial maintenance, mechatronics, or related field preferred
- 3 years of industrial maintenance experience, ideally within aseptic, food, beverage, dairy, or pharmaceutical manufacturing
- Strong mechanical skills with experience working on pumps, motors, gearboxes, and conveyors
- Working knowledge of electrical systems, PLC fundamentals, sensors, and instrumentation
- Experience with pneumatic and hydraulic systems
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and SOPs
- Familiarity with GMP-regulated environments
- Experience with aseptic fillers and sterilization systems (e.g., Tetra Pak, SIG, Krones, or similar) preferred
- Experience using CMMS systems; Maintenance Connection experience is a plus
- Welding, fabrication, machining, or PLC troubleshooting experience (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar) is a plus
- Understanding of CIP/SIP systems and sterile processing principles
