Summary of Position
To provide instruction to students in High School Equivalency (HSE), Adult Basic Education (ABE), or English-as-a- Second Language (ESL) class; must fulfill duties and responsibilities as provided by the Director of Adult Education.
Education and Experience
Master’s degree from a regionally accredited educational institution preferred
Degree in one of the following disciplines is preferred: Adult Education, Elementary Education, Secondary Education, Special Education, English, or Mathematics
Teacher certification preferred
- -Minimum one (1) year teaching experience is required; working with adults desirable
Knowledge Skills and Ability
- Ability to teach in an effective and competent manner.
- Understand the method of teaching by specific objectives.
- Knowledge of non-traditional student educational needs.
- Demonstrate effective classroom management providing maximum opportunity for student progress.
- Ability to communicate effectively with strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to teach on virtual and face-to-face platforms.
- Must have good computer skills with the ability to use MS Office Suite and other digital platforms
Essential Functions
- Recruit students for classes and accept responsibility for student retention & progress.
- Complete 15 hours of Professional Development each year as required by the Texas Workforce Commission and attend test administrator training.
- Administer TWC approved assessment to determine student’s educational functioning level & placement.
- Perform instructional duties efficiently and completely using a variety of teaching methods and online platforms.
- Create and follow lesson plans to ensure instruction alignment with Texas Adult Education & Literacy Content Standards v.3.
- Enhance and supplement student learning by integrating program approved online curriculum with daily instruction.
- Incorporate opportunities for students to use technology as a learning tool in the classroom.
- Use various methods to engage students in learning.
- Must maintain communication with students via various digital platforms.
- Ensure student attains one measurable skills gain (MSG) within the program year.
- Implement Integrated Career Awareness in the classroom that includes Civics and Government in lesson planning and instruction.
- Review & complete Individual Training, Education, & Career (ITEC) Plan with students to ensure progression and attainment of education & career goals. Collaborate with Lead Instructors and Career Navigator as requested.
- Assist with facilitating Success Academy. and submit weekly student attendance reports to the Adult Education office.
- Ensure all data is entered accurately and timely into Texas Educating Adult Management System (TEAMS) according to state and federal guidelines.
- Maintain forms and records required by the Adult Education Department and Texas Workforce Commission.
- Attend staff meetings and perform other duties as assigned.
