TITLE: Work-Based Learning Coordinator

REPORTS TO: Building Principals and Director of Curriculum & Instruction

WORK SCHEDULE: 200-day contract with some summer days and occasional evenings.

 

Position Purpose

The Work-Based Learning (WBL) Coordinator is a dynamic, student-centered role designed to bridge the gap between classroom instruction and the modern workforce. Serving students across the K-12 spectrum, the Coordinator will spearhead the district's initiative to integrate real-world professional experiences into the educational journey.

 

This position is responsible for cultivating a robust ecosystem of business and community partnerships that provide students with career-aligned learning opportunities. From sparking early career curiosity in elementary school to managing internships and internal work-based experiences for high schoolers, the WBL Coordinator ensures every student is equipped with the "durable skills" and industry exposure necessary for post-secondary success.

 

The Coordinator serves as a strategic instructional partner, providing direct support to teachers who seek to embed authentic, industry-informed learning experiences within their daily curriculum - transforming standard lessons into career-relevant challenges.

 

Essential Duties Responsibilities:

  • Partnership Development: Act as the primary liaison between the district and local industries to recruit, vet, and maintain a diverse network of business partners.
  • Instructional Support: Collaborate with K-12 educators to design and integrate project-based learning and "authentic" tasks into the curriculum, connecting academic standards to real-world applications.
  • Program Coordination: Design and oversee a developmental continuum of Work-Based Learning activities, including guest speakers, job shadowing, informational interviews, job site tours, mock interviews, internal district work placements, and external internships and apprenticeships.
  • Compliance & Logistics: Manage the administrative requirements of Work-Based Learning, including student placements, safety agreements, and tracking participation data.

 

Core Objectives:

  1. Strengthen Industry Ties: Increase the quantity and quality of active community partnerships.
  2. Empower Educators: Provide teachers with the resources, industry contacts, and scaffolding needed to make their curriculum "work-ready."
  3. Equip Students: Ensure students graduate with a portfolio of real-world experiences and a clear understanding of regional career pathways.
  4. Ensure Equity: Provide all students, regardless of background, with access to high-impact professional networks.

 

Leadership & District Initiatives

  • Assist in the implementation of district initiatives, including Portrait of a Saber
  • Provide ongoing guidance in common planning meetings and other committees as assigned.
  • In collaboration with administration, plan, deliver, and monitor the effectiveness of professional development for administrators, teachers, and support staff.
  • Lead training for staff in new and/or current programs.
  • Integrate ICAP-aligned (Individual Career and Academic Plan) activities to support.
  • Coordinate the implementation of the District Career and Academic Plan (DCAP)

 

Professional Development for Educators

Our program will emphasize collaboration between business partners and educators to create meaningful professional development (PD) opportunities that equip educators to link industry needs to educational content.

The Work-Based Learning Coordinator will:

  • Engage interdisciplinary teams by facilitating partnerships between businesses and educators to design PD sessions incorporating real-world industry insights and skills essential for future workplace success.
  • Support educators in contextualizing curriculum through workshops and mentoring by industry professionals, helping teachers integrate industry-aligned competencies into lessons and project-based learning.
  • Planned PD will include experiences such as professional skills workshops, where industry partners provide up-to-date workplace practices, equipping educators with tools to prepare students effectively. This collaborative approach will ensure alignment with district improvement plans and prepare educators to meet evolving workforce demands.

 

Evaluation

  • Annually based on goals for the year.
  • Data to reflect on will be collaboratively developed with the administrative team.

 

Additional Duties

  • Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principals and Director of Curriculum & Instruction..
  • Participates in training, workshops, etc., as required for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform job functions.

Travel Requirements

Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.

Education

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Work-Based Learning Supervisor Authorization
    • Must obtain within one year of starting employment.
  • Teaching license is not required.

 

Experience

  • Experience developing and maintaining partnerships with local businesses, industry leaders, and community organizations to expand career-connected learning opportunities for students.
  • Experience collaborating with community partners and educators to coordinate authentic learning experiences such as guest speakers, job shadows, internships, and career exploration activities.
