Summary
Provide a safe and secure environment for all students, staff, and visitors of the Central Dauphin School District.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine safety and security duties at District facilities, including, but not limited to, surveying District buildings and grounds to identify unsafe conditions, possible security problems, or unauthorized persons Patrol and monitor assigned areas of the school buildings, grounds, and parking lots to deter, detect, report, and stop violations of criminal law and/or school district policies.
- Communicate clearly, concisely, and effectively, both orally and in writing, with the administrative staff, professional and support staff, students, parents and community while establishing and maintaining good rapport.
- Read and abide by the Pennsylvania School laws and regulations, Federal and State laws and regulations governing educational and civil rights of students and others, Child Protective Services Act, the policies of the Board of School Directors, administrative manuals, and contractual obligations.
- Notify administrative staff, police, fire department, or other appropriate authorities of security or emergency situations as applicable and maintain appropriate records (i.e. incident reports) as applicable. Assist with the supervision and direction of student movement in both non-emergent and emergent situations (i.e. fire alarm activation, emergent evacuation, etc.).
- Assist administrators, staff, emergency responders and local law enforcement officials in handling serious student offenses, emergency situations, searches as requested and criminal violations.
- Stress safety of students and staff at all times and remain alert to dangerous or unusual situations.
- Ensure all equipment (including, but not limited to, restraining device, duty handgun, OC spray, and flashlight) assigned is accounted for and kept in a serviceable condition and all assigned firearms are clean and in good working order. Assist faculty and administrators, who are the leads, with controlling classroom disturbances or acts of defiance. Request assistance from police when necessary.
- Relate to and function effectively with people of varying backgrounds and positions while being able to collaborate and work as a team while ensuring confidentiality. • Assist administrators, as requested, in supervising or completing investigations relating to student violations of school policy.
- Detect, investigate, and address unauthorized or suspicious persons, vehicles, and activities.
- Utilize technology (CCTV, Access Control, Two-Way Radio) as appropriate to aid in daily security investigations and functions.
- Other duties as assigned.

Requirements
- Must have a minimum 3 years security/law enforcement experience.
- Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent, excellent communication skills, valid PA driver’s license, and Act 235 clearance, Act 120 or Pennsylvania State Police academy graduate preferred
- Must be willing to provide or obtain the following: basic NASRO School Resource Officer training or equivalent
- Must be able to communicate effectively with staff and the public.
- Should possess skills to develop and prepare effective written communication.
- Must be able to work effectively with other administrators and governmental agencies, private associations, and citizen groups; manage human relationships; effectively present oral and written reports.
- Must be available to work early morning, evening, and overnight as necessary and/or in the case of emergency situations.
Hours (Armed School Security Guards work 210 days per year):
- Elementary - 8:15 AM- 4:15 PM
- Secondary - 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM
