We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Visual Arts Teacher to inspire creativity and foster artistic development among students of differing age groups. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in art education, fine arts and classroom management. This role involves designing engaging lesson plans, implementing curriculum standards, and supporting students' artistic growth within a nurturing environment.
The Visual Arts Teacher will play a vital role in cultivating students’ artistic talents. This position offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on our student learners' artistic journeys while contributing to their overall development within a supportive educational environment.
The Visual Arts Teacher is responsible for delivering engaging visual arts instruction to students in grades 9-12. This role emphasizes the development of technical and artistic skills while fostering creativity, problem-solving, and a lifelong appreciation for the arts. The teacher creates a supportive studio environment where students are encouraged to explore a variety of media, techniques, and artistic perspectives.
Reports to the Fine & Performing Arts Department Chair.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver a comprehensive art curriculum for multiple grade levels, adapting instruction to meet diverse student needs and skill levels.
- Teach and demonstrate foundational and advanced techniques across various media (drawing, painting, sculpture, mixed media, photography, and/or digital art).
- Foster students’ creativity while building strong technical proficiency.
- Encourage critical analysis and discussion of artwork, including historical and contemporary works.
- Assess student progress through projects and critiques, providing constructive and timely feedback.
- Maintain an organized, safe, and inspiring classroom/studio environment.
- Manage art supplies, equipment, and inventory within budget guidelines.
- Collaborate with colleagues on interdisciplinary projects and school initiatives
- Develop and implement comprehensive art curricula aligned with educational standards and tailored to diverse student needs.
- Plan and deliver engaging lessons that incorporate various art techniques, mediums, and cultural perspectives.
- Manage classroom behavior effectively to create a positive learning environment conducive to artistic exploration that encourages creativity and respect among students.
- Maintain a safe, organized classroom environment Collaborate with colleagues to integrate art into interdisciplinary projects and school-wide activities.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with teaching strategies, curriculum innovations, and child development research.
- Bachelor’s degree in Art Education, Fine Arts, or a related field; advanced certifications preferred.
- Proven experience teaching art in a high school or similar settings
- Knowledge of curriculum development and lesson planning.
- Strong communication skills for effective interaction with students, parents, and staff.
- Ability to adapt teaching methods for students with special needs or behavioral challenges.
- Experience with SketchUp and 3D modeling software.
- A background in photography and film development.
- A willingness to contribute to the broader school community through clubs, exhibitions, or extracurricular activities.
Mobility & Movement
- Standing and Walking: Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods (up to 6-8 hours per day) to instruct students, circulate the classroom, monitor hallways, and supervise recess/lunch.
- Reaching and Lifting: Ability to reach overhead, above the shoulders, and horizontally to access and arrange teaching materials, whiteboards, or bulletin boards.
- Lifting and Carrying: Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds (e.g., boxes of books, educational supplies, or technology equipment) on an occasional basis.
- Bending and Kneeling: Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, or sit on the floor frequently to interact with students at their level, assist with classroom activities, and manage behavior.
- Repetitive Motion: Use of hands and fingers for keyboarding, writing, grading, and manipulating material.
- Visual Acuity: Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus (e.g., to read student work, observe students across a classroom, and monitor computer screens).
- Hearing Acuity: Ability to hear and understand spoken directions at a conversational level, as well as the ability to distinguish and interpret sounds (e.g., a whisper, fire alarm, or distress calls from students) in a noisy environment.
- Speaking/Verbal Communication: Ability to clearly articulate verbal information to students, parents, and colleagues, including the ability to project one's voice in a classroom or auditorium setting.
- Sustained Energy: Ability to maintain a high level of energy and mental alertness throughout the entire school day, managing the physical and mental demands of teaching.
- Sitting: Ability to sit for moderate periods to complete administrative tasks, planning, grading, or conduct small group instruction.
- Quick Response: Ability to physically respond quickly to emergencies, safety concerns, or unexpected physical demands (e.g., intervening in a student dispute, assisting an injured student, or performing emergency evacuation procedures).
- Pushing/Pulling: Ability to push or pull classroom furniture or equipment as needed.
The Fine & Performing Arts department is made up of passionate, enthusiastic educators who are dedicated to creating classroom environments where students of all abilities can achieve success in Visual Art, Music, and Theater.
Central Catholic students are required to complete one semester of an introductory course in the arts, and many go on to take elective courses in their Junior and Senior years.

Compensation: Salary & Benefits
Central Catholic is committed to offering salaries and benefits that are highly competitive relative to similar Catholic secondary schools.
Compensation will be commensurate with the level of education, experience and certifications.
The salary range for this position is $59,244 - $92,809 in accordance with the CCHS Faculty Agreement Salary Scale
