General Summary: A nonexempt position responsible for day-to-day work flow and training of medical assistants as assigned by the Clinical Operations Supervisor and/ Director of Operations.  Resource for questions concerning clinical protocols.  Provides excellent customer service in a timely, accurate, courteous and professional manner.  Provides information to patients so they may fully utilize and benefit from the clinical services.  This position is equally responsible for performing a variety of clinical duties including assisting physicians with patient care.  

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  1. Fulfills patient care responsibilities for assigned physicians and/or other areas as needed.
  2. Works in conjunction with manager developing and monitoring processes relative to medical and administrative patient care.
  3. Checks accuracy of work performed by the medical assistants and tactfully communicates any needed corrections.
  4. Resource for medical assistants and other departments regarding the clinical protocols.
  5. Ensures the department is adequately equipped with appropriate supplies/inventory management
  6. Participates in quality improvement processes.
  7. Respects/promotes patient rights and responds appropriately to emergencies.
  8. Shares problems relating to patients and/or staff with immediate supervisor/manager.
  9. Consults with the immediate supervisor about any system problems.
  10. Communicates to appropriate staff any patient concerns/issues related to patient care. 
  11. In conjunction with manager, coordinates staff schedules to meet changing workload needs.
  12. Participates in the hiring, supervision and evaluation of assigned staff.
  13. Provides professional and technical support to staff, including training new hires.
  14. Adheres to all meaningful use workflows and helps ensure staff compliance.
  15. Participates in the implementation and evaluation of training, orientation and education programs.
  16. May provide operational support to the organization in the absences of the Clinical Supervisor and/or the Director of Operations.
  17. Supports quality of care by maintaining clinic standards of care while adhering to requirements of governing agencies.  Monitors staff for compliance and discusses any noncompliance issues with direct supervisor.
  18. Works as a productive member of the team helping co-workers as needed and/or assigned.
  19. Performs all medical assistant duties and covers for medical assistants as needed.
  20. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

Education: High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED), Medical Assistant certification from an accredited institution (preferred).

Experience: Minimum one year of recent experience working in a medical facility as a medical assistant or any equivalent combination of experience.

Other Requirements: Up to date CPR certification (preferred). Certification from an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.

  1. Knowledge of health care field and medical practice protocols/procedures.
  2. Knowledge of HIPAA Privacy and Security rules.
  3. Knowledge of specific assisting tasks related to medical practice.
  4. Knowledge of information that must be conveyed to patients and families.
  5. Knowledge of human resources management principles.

Skills:

  1. Skill in applying quality assurance techniques.
  2. Skill in training staff, both new staff members and existing staff.
  3. Skill in documentation of patient care including reviewing for accuracy and completeness.
  4. Skill in performing medical assistance tasks appropriately.
  5. Skill in tact and diplomacy in interpersonal interactions.
  6. Skill in understanding patient education needs by effectively sharing information with patients and families.

Abilities:

  1. Ability to work in a team based environment that places patient satisfaction as the primary focus for measuring success.
  2. Ability to appropriately determine the urgency of a patient problem and communicate the information to the physician and/or management.
  3. Ability to communicate clearly with different levels of the organization.
  4. Ability to analyze medical records and documentation and identify problem areas.
  5. Ability to learn and retain information regarding patient care procedures.
  6. Ability to multitask and handle various priorities in a flexible, rapidly changing environment.
