The Entertainment Operator - Sound is responsible for the daily operation and maintenance of all sound elements in the vessel’s main theater and alternative entertainment venues. The Entertainment Operator - Sound is responsible for mixing sound levels and executing sound cues on all performances in the theater and is required to monitor and maintain the organizational standards on sound levels, system EQ settings, and background music. The Entertainment Operator – Sound will liaise with Headline Entertainers about their sound requirements, attend all rehearsals, sound checks, and assist at all stage resets. In addition to the duties listed above, the Entertainment Operator – Sound is also responsible for assisting the Entertainment Staff on any sound related tasks in the vessel’s alternative entertainment venues as requested by the Stage & Production Manager or Technical Director.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain brand and industry standards for sound quality in the main theater and/or the alternative entertainment venues as necessary (overall sound levels and correct operation of sound equipment.
- Follow the daily written schedule for events, rehearsals, sound checks, and performance
- Maintain professional and helpful interactions with guests attending the shows if asked for assistance or given feedback.
- Liaise with the Stage & Production Manager or Technical Director for maintaining and improving production value in the theater.
- Operate all sound elements scheduled in the vessel’s main theater.
- Maintain console settings and configurations and room EQ. Changes to console settings and configurations are not to be implemented without written approval from the Head Office. Any element from a Production Show, Theme Event Party, or prescribed Celebrity event may not be altered or changed without office approval.
- Responsible for reporting any deficient equipment.
- Adhere to Celebrity’s SQM and safety standards, as well as meet and maintain the artistic integrity of the produced theatrical shows.
- Participate in stage resets with the Entertainment Operator team.
- Works with the Stage & Production Manager or Technical Director to ensure the theater set-up is clean, organized, and showcases an appealing stage picture when the audience enters.
- Open theater doors 30 minutes prior to showtime or as instructed by the Stage & Production Manager or Technical Director.
- Maintains a high level of production value for ship’s main theater.
- Upholds the integrity of shows and events in the theater produced by Celebrity Cruises or those produced in conjunction with outside production companies.
- Responsible for delivering results, with the Stage & Production Manager or Technical Director, for Overall Entertainment ratings based on Theater Production Shows and Headline Entertainers.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in theatre (sound design or technology) from an accredited university or equivalent experience is required.
- Minimum 4 years’ experience in entertainment or theatrical sound operation, live mixing, set up, and maintenance is required.
- Extensive knowledge of sound equipment, vocabulary, and relevant electrical knowledge.
- Previous experience on cruise ships or touring an asset.
- Experience setting up sound equipment for live music venues, sound checking, and troubleshooting.
- Basic lighting knowledge, equipment, fixture focusing, recalling cues, et cetera.
- Working knowledge of computers (Windows and Mac) and connecting to external devices such as projectors and TV screens, and relevant troubleshooting.
- Excellent communications and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work positively and cooperatively in a diverse team environment to meet overall established timeframes.
- Ability to communicate tactfully with coworkers and other shipboard employees to resolve problems and negotiate resolutions.
