The Entertainment Operator – Fly is responsible for the daily operation and maintenance of all performer flying equipment in the vessel’s main theatre and alternative entertainment venues. This includes operating and calling fly sequences during the cast production shows and theme events, and conducting regular inspections on the performer flying equipment and cast apparatus/harnesses. The Entertainment Operator – Fly is responsible for attending all performances, rehearsals, aerial strength trainings, and any other event that involves use of the performer flying systems. The Entertainment Operator – Fly will monitor and maintain organizational and industry safety standards on the operation and maintenance of performer flying systems. In addition to the duties listed above, the Entertainment Operator – Fly is also responsible for assisting the Stage & Production Manager / Technical Director with running the Headline Entertainer shows and coordinating all stage requirements of the Headline Entertainers. This includes setting tables, chairs, stools, dressing cables, et cetera, as well as acting as the communication point between the entertainers and the Entertainment Operator – Sound & Lighting as needed. The Entertainment Operator – Fly will assist with all backstage resets, operate stage automation reset cues, and assist the Entertainment Staff with various technical tasks in the alternative entertainment venues as scheduled by the Stage & Production Manager or Technical Director.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


· Maintain brand and industry standards for performer flying safety and quality in the main theatre.

· Follow the daily written schedule for events, rehearsals, and performances.

· Maintain professional and helpful interactions with guests attending the shows if asked for assistance or given feedback.

· Liaise with the Stage & Production Manager or Technical Director for maintaining and improving production value in the theatre.

· Operate and maintain all performer flying elements and call performer flying cues for cast production shows.

· Adhere to Celebrity’s SQM and safety standards, as well as meet and maintain the artistic integrity of the produced theatrical shows.

· Ensures that only Head Office approved performers are using the performer flying equipment. Any requests by others to use the performer flying equipment must be approved in writing by the Head Office.

· Ensure only aerial moves or stunts approved and rehearsed during the install process are being performed.

· Participate in stage resets with the Entertainment Operator team.

· Participate in all aerial rehearsals and training sessions.

· Works with the Stage & Production Manager or Technical Director to ensure the theatre set-up is clean, organized, and showcases an appealing stage picture when the audience enters.

· Open theatre doors 30 minutes prior to showtime or as instructed by the Stage & Production Manager or Technical Director.

· Maintains a high level of production value for ship’s main theatre.

· Upholds the integrity of shows and events in the theatre produced by Celebrity Cruises or those produced in conjunction with outside Production Companies.

· Responsible for delivering results, with the Stage & Production Manager, for Overall Entertainment ratings based on Theatre Production Shows and Headline Entertainers.


QUALIFICATIONS


· Bachelor’s degree in theatre (focus in theatre technology or entertainment rigging) from an accredited university or equivalent experience is required.

· Minimum 4 years’ experience in entertainment or theatrical technology work; stage hand, backstage, rigging and performer flying required.

· Extensive knowledge and experience with various entertainment rigging systems, including motorized hoists and winches, is required.

· Extensive knowledge of motorized performer flying systems, equipment, and safety standards.

· Experience working with performers in a multi-cultural setting.

· Basic knowledge of sound equipment set up, operation, and troubleshooting.

· Working knowledge of computers (Windows and Mac) and connecting to external devices such as projectors and TV screens, and relevant troubleshooting.

· Previous experience on cruise ships or touring an asset.

· Excellent communications and interpersonal skills.

· Ability to work positively and cooperatively in a diverse team environment to meet overall established timeframes.

· Ability to communicate tactfully with coworkers and other shipboard employees to resolve problems and negotiate resolutions.

· Able to work well in a fast-paced environment and adapt well to sudden changes.

Language Requirements

Ability to speak English clearly, distinctly and cordially with guests and crew members.

Ability to read and write English in order to understand and interpret written procedures. This includes the ability to give and receive instructions in written and verbal forms and to effectively present information and respond to questions from guests, supervisors and co-workers.



PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of this job, the shipboard employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee must continually lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and may work at heights up to 50 feet. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

All shipboard employees must be physically able to participate in emergency lifesaving procedures and drills. Full use and range of arms and legs as well as full visual, verbal and hearing abilities are required to receive and give instructions in the event of an emergency including the lowering of lifeboats.
