What are the responsibilities and job description for the Automation Specialist (Night Shift) position at CCL Global?
We’re hiring a Automation Technician to support upstream onshore oil & gas operations on a 12-hour night rotation. This is a hands-on role for an experienced automation professional with strong troubleshooting skills and growing integrator-level exposure.
You’ll support well sites, well pads, tank batteries, SWD, and compressor stations, working with PLCs, RTUs, HMIs, and field instrumentation to ensure safe, reliable operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot, maintain, and repair automation and electrical equipment
- Support PLCs, RTUs, HMIs, and control networks
- Install, program, calibrate, and maintain field instrumentation (pressure, flow, level, etc.)
- Commission systems using engineering design documents
- Validate control loops, test alarms, and confirm control logic functionality
- Follow PLC standards, MOC procedures, and Process Control requirements
- Use CMMS tools (SAP) to support maintenance activities
Required Experience
- 3 years as an Automation Technician / Automation Specialist
- 3 years of oilfield experience (upstream preferred)
- Strong experience with RTUs, PLCs, instrumentation, and communications networks
- Working knowledge of Allen-Bradley PLCs, ladder logic, function block, and structured text
- Experience supporting HMIs
- Familiarity with industry standards (API, NEC, NFPA, ISA)
- Willingness to work 12-hour night shifts, weekends, holidays, and on-call
Preferred Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Automation or related field
- Experience with Rosemount instrumentation
- Ability to read P&IDs, wiring diagrams, Cause & Effects, and control narratives
- Experience troubleshooting Ethernet/IP, ControlNet, fiber, and RF networks
