About Cathedral High School


Established in August 2022, Cathedral High School is a Catholic diocesan high school of the Ordinariate of the Chair of St. Peter located in Houston, Texas. As an Ordinariate school, our classical, liberal arts curriculum is structured around four pillars: Sacred Worship, Sacred Wisdom, Sacred Music, and Sacred Art. Faculty and staff understand the unity of truth and situate their course material within the Western tradition, at the service of a life of faith and the for the cultivation of virtue.


Position Overview


Cathedral seeks an Assistant Head of School to serve as the Head of School's chief internal partner-safeguarding the school's Catholic identity and classical character while ensuring that day-to-day operations run smoothly. The Assistant Head of School leads faculty formation and coaching, unifies curriculum and assessment across departments, and cultivates a joyful student culture grounded in clear expectations and charitable discipline. The role also coordinates schedules, attendance, events, and the House System; partners closely with parents; and keeps academic processes and records timely and orderly-all this, so the Head can sustain outward-facing advancement. Working with the Director of Learning Enrichment and department chairs, the Assistant Head of School advances Cathedrals liberal arts program, oversees professional development and dual-credit offerings, and models faithful participation in the life of the school.


Key Responsibilities


Catholic Culture:

  • Collaborate with the Head of School and Chaplain to foster a culture of joy and wonder through prayer and study; model faithful participation at daily Mass.


School Leadership & Operations:

  • Partner with the Head of School and administrative team on daily operations (procedures, schedules, attendance, events, discipline, House System).
  • Maintain clean, timely academic processes (grade reporting, FACTS/RenWeb, accreditation documentation).
  • Communicate promptly and charitably with parents; build strong partnership with the Family Guild.


Curriculum & Instructional Support:

  • With the Head of School, Director of Learning Enrichment, and department chairs, continue to develop and review the Catholic liberal arts curriculum.
  • Observe and coach teachers; lead formation and professional development (seminar leadership, writing-across-the-curriculum, assessments).
  • Coordinate dual-credit programs; align classroom scope and sequence with CLT (Classical Learning Test) expectations without teaching to the test.
  • Support single-sex sections (as applicable) with prudent guidance on pedagogy, classroom management, and formation.

  • High emotional intelligence; skilled at building relationships, navigating cultural dynamics, and responding to parent and faculty concerns with wisdom and charity.
  • Skilled observer and teacher coach; unifies departments around common expectations for seminar, writing, assessment, and feedback.
  • Prudent, data-literate decision-maker; reads both the room and the numbers; uses CLT blueprints and results to strengthen curriculum without collapsing it into test prep.
  • Builder of a joyful, orderly student culture; mentorship first, clear and consistent consequences, calm under pressure, steady communication with families.
  • Operationally excellent; keeps calendars, systems, and accreditation materials crisp and on time; follows through and collaborates reliably with the team.


Qualifications


  • Willingness to uphold the Magisterium of the Catholic Church.
  • Graduate degree in Educational Administration or School Leadership; meets Texas requirements for high school administrators.
  • Previous experience in high school administration (required).
  • Background and understanding of the liberal arts/classical tradition (required); prior leadership in a Catholic/classical school (preferred).
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and develop faculty; experience with professional development and academic leadership structures.


Compensation: Full-time position; salary commensurate with experience.
