We’re looking for a Water Resources Engineer I who thrives on meaningful project ownership, has strong communication skills, a commitment to excellence, and a passion for supporting clean‑energy projects in a process‑driven, collaborative environment.

Why You’ll Love Working Here

We are a fast-growing, mission-driven firm where engineers are trusted, supported, and given clear opportunities to advance. You will work in a collaborative environment that values mentorship, innovation, and professional growth, allowing you to develop your skills, make a visible impact, and build confidence as part of a close-knit team.

Position Overview

The Water Resources Engineer I supports the hydrologic and hydraulic design of stormwater management systems for utility-scale solar facilities. Under the guidance of senior engineers, this role contributes to drainage reports, floodplain analysis, erosion control design, and regulatory permit packages. The ideal candidate has academic grounding in hydrology and hydraulics and a desire to grow their expertise in the renewable energy sector.

What You’ll Do

  • Hydrologic & Hydraulic Analysis
  • Assist in performing hydrologic calculations for pre- and post-construction runoff analysis using methods such as NRCS Curve Number, Rational Method, and TR-55.
  • Support hydraulic modeling of open channels, culverts, and detention/retention basins using HEC-RAS, StormCAD, or equivalent software.
  • Compile and interpret rainfall data, soil classifications, land use, and topographic information for hydrologic inputs.
  • Assist in sizing stormwater infrastructure including detention ponds, outlet control structures, infiltration basins, and conveyance channels.
  • Perform basic floodplain analysis and assist in preparing materials for FEMA Flood Zone determinations and LOMA/LOMR applications.
  • Stormwater & Drainage Design
  • Prepare drainage area maps, time-of-concentration calculations, and runoff volume analyses for solar project sites.
  • Assist in designing erosion and sediment control plans (ESCPs) and Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs) in compliance with NPDES Construction General Permit (CGP) requirements.
  • Support preparation of grading and drainage plans in coordination with Civil 3D-based site design workflows.
  • Assist in designing stormwater quality best management practices (BMPs) including vegetated swales, sediment traps, rock check dams, and filter berms.
  • Contribute to drainage reports and technical memoranda summarizing hydrologic/hydraulic findings.
  • Permitting & Regulatory Support
  • Assist in preparing stormwater permit applications and supporting documentation for AHJ, state environmental agency, and USACE submittals.
  • Research local and state stormwater design standards, floodplain ordinances, and MS4 permit requirements applicable to project sites.
  • Support coordination with environmental and wetland specialists to identify jurisdictional waters and potential project impacts.
  • Assist in compiling responses to agency comments and requests for additional information (RAIs).
  • Field & Data Support
  • Process LiDAR data and topographic surveys to develop accurate terrain models for hydrologic analysis.
  • Assist in GIS-based watershed delineation, land cover classification, and spatial data analysis to support drainage studies.
  • Collaboration & Process
  • Coordinate with civil, environmental, and structural engineering team members to ensure hydraulic design integrates with overall site design.
  • Maintain organized project documentation including calculation files, modeling outputs, and permit correspondence.
  • Participate in design reviews, internal QA/QC processes, and client meetings.
  • Contribute to the development of technical templates, standard calculations, and engineering SOPs.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering, or a related field with a focus in water resources, hydrology, or hydraulics.
  • 1–2 years of experience including internships in stormwater design, drainage engineering, or hydrologic/hydraulic analysis.
  • Foundational knowledge of hydrology and hydraulics including runoff estimation, channel flow, and stormwater BMP design.
  • Familiarity with HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, or StormCAD (coursework or entry-level professional experience accepted).
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D for drainage plan preparation and surface modeling.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for hydrologic calculations and data analysis.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Desire to obtain PE licensure; EIT certification preferred or in progress.
  • Familiarity with NPDES Construction General Permit requirements and SWPPP preparation preferred
  • Basic GIS skills (ArcGIS or QGIS) for watershed delineation and drainage area mapping preferred
  • Exposure to FEMA floodplain mapping, FIRM panels, and Letter of Map Amendment/Revision processes preferred
  • Experience with solar farm, land development, or energy infrastructure projects preferred

Work Environment & Benefits

  • This role is preferred onsite in Maitland, FL, but has the option for remote work.
  • Competitive salary based on experience
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance (if applicable)
  • Paid time off, company holidays, and professional growth opportunities
