Casa de Amparo is hiring for the following shifts:

Residential Counselor:

 

AM Shift 6:00AM to 4:00PM

PM Shift 2:00PM to 12:00AM

Overnight 9:00PM to 7:00AM

Full time is 4 days/10 hours weekly schedule

Part time must commit to a fixed schedule of at least 2 shifts/week

Must be willing to work on the weekends

 

Rate: Base rate is $17.50/hour plus $0.50/hour premium plus $0.50/hour differential

Description of Casa de Amparo’s Residential Services Program

Casa de Amparo is a leader in treating and preventing child abuse and neglect in San Diego County and all over the state of California. Our Residential Services Program services youth ages 12-18 years old (including non-minor dependents and their children), traumatized by child abuse or neglect. Each one of our youth receive comprehensive trauma-informed care tailored to their individual physical, social, emotional, developmental and educational needs, while also ensuring they have healthy childhood experiences.

 

General Function:

Being a Residential Counselor for the youth at Casa de Amparo is a challenging and rewarding career you are essential to the care and rehabilitation of our youth. As a Residential Counselor, you provide safety, protection, physical care, and social and moral guidance as well as teach life skills and role model for our youth in our Residential Services Program. You also work together with Program Managers and Clinical Staff to ensure that the youth you care for are receiving the best treatment and childhood experience that is right for them.

We are hiring for PM and Overnight shifts. 

 

Major Tasks:

  • Assure the safety of youth (and their children) in the Residential Services Program.
  • Assure youth have adequate clothing and other basic supply needs properly requested and fulfilled.
  • Provide care that is informed and respectful of differing cultures and norms that exist within various cultures.
  • Carry out daily activities of residents per the daily schedule by means of coordinating with residents and transporting residents when needed; i.e. chores, passes, school attendance, meals, recreation, medical appointments, visits, and court appointments.
  • Be an integral part of the resident’s clinical treatment plans and collaborate with clinical staff to provide services consistent with those plans.
  • Assist youth in self-administration of their medication and document accurately in accordance with the Residential Services Health Care and Medication Training plan requirements.
  • Provide crisis intervention as necessary.
  • Record daily progress notes for each resident.
  • Attend all required staff meetings and in-service trainings.
  • Perform other administrative tasks as assigned including but not limited to: reporting janitorial and hygiene needs, submitting building maintenance requests, submitting supply requests.

Compensation:

  • $17.50   per hour depending on education as well as experience in residential care. Special pay considerations for extensive job experience in field. 
  • Pay differential for working PM & Overnight Shifts.

Qualifications:

Requirements:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must be in accordance with Casa de Amparo through Community Care Licensing (CCL), which includes clearance by FBI, DOJ, and CACI.
  • Must be able to meet one of the following three requirements:
    • One year of full-time experience working OR volunteering in a residential treatment program OR
    • Be in possession of a Bachelor’s Degree OR
    • Have at least 12 units (credits) in human development, child development, psychology, or related subject AND 100 hours of experience working with youth.
  • Must possess maturity, good judgement and the ability to be a positive role model for youth ages 0-18 years old.
  • Must be able to work as part of a team.
  • Must be able to work shifts up to 10 hours in length.
  • Must have ambulatory, auditory and visual skills to observe and physically intervene with residents when required.
  • Must be physically able to participate in activities and perform related physical skills, including, but not limited to, crouching, lifting 50 pounds, crawling on hands and knees, and walking up and down stairs.
  • Ability to comply with all employment requirements including, but not limited to:
    • CPR/ Pediatric First Aid
    • Physical, tuberculosis and drug screen clearance
    • Clear DMV record and approval from insurance carrier to drive agency vehicles
  • Must provide proof of immunization against influenza, pertussis, and measles.
  • English proficient (bilingual and bi-cultural preferred).

Preferred Experience:

  • Worked with disabled or medically fragile clients.
  • Knowledge of developmental needs of children ages 0-18 years throughout each developmental stage.
