Position Summary
Independently fits and assembles structural components while ensuring dimensional accuracy and production requirements.
Essential Duties
- Read and interpret fabrication drawings.
- Lay out work according to specifications.
- Fit and align structural assemblies.
- Verify dimensions and tolerances.
- Coordinate with welders to ensure proper assembly.
- Assist in training junior fitters.
Qualifications
- Strong blueprint interpretation skills.
- Knowledge of fabrication methods and tools.
- Ability to solve fit-up issues independently.
Experience
- 2–5 years of structural fitting experience.
Hours
- Monday – Thursday 6:00am – 4:30pm
- Overtime may be required.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Welding or fabrication training is a plus.
- Typically 2–5 years of structural fitting, fabrication, or steel construction experience.
- Experience working with structural steel components and assemblies.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications.
- Knowledge of structural steel layouts and fit-up procedures.
- Ability to read tape measures, squares, levels, and other measuring tools accurately.
- Experience using hand tools, power tools, cutting torches, and fabrication equipment.
- Ability to tack weld (if required by the employer).
- Understanding of weld symbols and fabrication standards.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
- Lay out, fit, and assemble structural steel components according to drawings.
- Verify dimensions and align parts prior to welding.
- Operate fabrication and material-handling equipment safely.
- Inspect work for quality and accuracy.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area.
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
- Ability to stand, bend, lift, and work in a fabrication shop environment.
- Ability to lift materials (often up to 50 pounds).
- Ability to work overtime as needed.
