Position Summary
Entry-level coatings technician responsible for surface preparation and basic coating application under supervision.
Essential Duties
- Prepare surfaces through cleaning and abrasive blasting.
- Mix paints and coatings according to instructions.
- Assist with application of coatings.
- Maintain blasting and painting equipment.
- Follow safety and environmental regulations.
Qualifications
- Basic knowledge of industrial painting preferred.
- Ability to wear respirators and PPE.
Experience
- 0–2 years of industrial painting or blasting experience.
Hours
- Monday – Thursday 6:00am – 4:30pm
- Overtime may be required.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous industrial painting, blasting, manufacturing, or construction experience preferred but not required.
- Ability to safely use hand tools and power tools.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Basic understanding of workplace safety practices.
- Reliable attendance and strong work ethic.
- Prepare surfaces for painting and coating through cleaning, grinding, sanding, masking, and abrasive blasting.
- Assist with operation of blasting equipment and paint application equipment.
- Apply industrial primers, paints, and protective coatings according to specifications.
- Mix paints and coatings following manufacturer instructions.
- Inspect surfaces before and after blasting and painting.
- Maintain proper coating thickness and finish quality under supervision.
- Perform touch-up painting as required.
- Clean and maintain painting and blasting equipment.
- Assist with loading, unloading, and moving materials within the facility.
- Keep work areas clean and organized.
- Follow all company safety procedures and PPE requirements.
- Ability to learn industrial blasting and coating processes.
- Basic understanding of measuring tools and quality standards.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to complete work accurately and efficiently.
- Experience with industrial painting or sandblasting.
- Forklift experience.
- Overhead crane experience.
- Knowledge of coating systems and surface preparation standards.
- Experience working in heavy manufacturing or steel fabrication environments.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and climb throughout the shift.
- Ability to work in varying temperatures and shop conditions.
