Painter/ Blaster I

Position Summary

Entry-level coatings technician responsible for surface preparation and basic coating application under supervision.

Essential Duties

• Prepare surfaces through cleaning and abrasive blasting.
• Mix paints and coatings according to instructions.
• Assist with application of coatings.
• Maintain blasting and painting equipment.
• Follow safety and environmental regulations.

Qualifications

• Basic knowledge of industrial painting preferred.
• Ability to wear respirators and PPE.

Experience

• 0–2 years of industrial painting or blasting experience.

Hours

• Monday – Thursday 6:00am – 4:30pm
• Overtime may be required.

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Previous industrial painting, blasting, manufacturing, or construction experience preferred but not required.
• Ability to safely use hand tools and power tools.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Basic understanding of workplace safety practices.
• Reliable attendance and strong work ethic.
• Prepare surfaces for painting and coating through cleaning, grinding, sanding, masking, and abrasive blasting.
• Assist with operation of blasting equipment and paint application equipment.
• Apply industrial primers, paints, and protective coatings according to specifications.
• Mix paints and coatings following manufacturer instructions.
• Inspect surfaces before and after blasting and painting.
• Maintain proper coating thickness and finish quality under supervision.
• Perform touch-up painting as required.
• Clean and maintain painting and blasting equipment.
• Assist with loading, unloading, and moving materials within the facility.
• Keep work areas clean and organized.
• Follow all company safety procedures and PPE requirements.
• Ability to learn industrial blasting and coating processes.
• Basic understanding of measuring tools and quality standards.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Good communication skills.
• Ability to complete work accurately and efficiently.
• Experience with industrial painting or sandblasting.
• Forklift experience.
• Overhead crane experience.
• Knowledge of coating systems and surface preparation standards.
• Experience working in heavy manufacturing or steel fabrication environments.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and climb throughout the shift.
• Ability to work in varying temperatures and shop conditions.
• Ability to wear required PPE including:
  • Respirator
  • Safety glasses
  • Face shield
  • Hearing protection
  • Protective clothing
  • Steel-toed boots
